| Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, "Friends are God's way of taking care of us." But how do you find real friendship and keep it? The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seeds (种子) and take care of it to make it grow. First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient (耐心的). For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints (抱怨) and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your life. But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn't want to talk, you can write a letter. There are some steps to be friends again. Tell him or her how you are feeling; say what your friend did wrong and explain why you did this or that; remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life. | ||||||

Some people believe that your nationality can influence your personality. This is why you might hear someone saying “She is a typical(典型的) Australian” or “He is so French”. It seems that people from a certain country share certain similar characteristics.
French
French people are often seen as romantic and outgoing people with a great love for life, food and wine. They are good at singing and dancing.
Chinese
Chinese are friendly people who are hard-working. They are polite because they are careful about “saving face” when dealing with other people.
Australians
Australians are merry people who spend a lot of time outdoors. They enjoy a slower life. They laugh a lot but sometimes people think they are loud and rude.
Germans
Germans are often described as being serious and careful. They are hard workers and pay a lot of attention to details. However, sometimes people say Germans have no sense of humour.
All these national types can be true for some people, but very wrong for others. For example, you might meet a German who is a confident singer with a great sense of humour, or an Australian who is shy and quiet.!

Bill Gates is a very important person in the computer industry. He has been chief officer of Microsoft Company for several years. He is also the richest person in the United States. How did he do it?
He learned a lot from his parents. While Bill was going to school, his father went to college, got a degree, and became a successful lawyer. 1 . His mother was a very busy teacher, but she also loved going to parties. From this, he learned something else: if you want to work hard and play hard, you have to make a schedule.
2 . While most of his friends were playing, Bill read all of the World Book Encyclopedia and finished it when he was 8 years old. 3 . He used to play a lot of sports — swimming, water-skiing, tennis. When Bill got older, he spent more and more time working and playing on a computer.
Before he was twenty, Bill developed the world’s first computer language for the personal computer. 4 . He thought that every home was going to have a computer, and every computer would need software — his software. He said, “ I’m going to make my first million dollars on software by the time I’m 25.” And he did!
