The Winter Olympic Games

The Winter Olympic Games are a big international sports event. The Games take place every four years. The first Winter Olympics, the 1924 Winter Olympics, were in Chamonix, France. There were some ice sports such as skiing, skating, ice hockey, ski jumping and speed skating.

The 24th Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing. It will be from 4 to 20 February, 2022. There will be three zones (区域) for the Games: Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou.

The Beijing zone will be for the opening and closing ceremonies (仪式) and ice sports. Yanqing zone will be mainly used for skiing competitions. Zhangjiakou zone will be for the snow sports. Both Yanqing and Zhangjiakou zones are on the north-west of the Beijing zone, near the Yanshan Mountain. With pleasant temperatures and a perfect environment, these two places are good choices for the snow sports of Beijing 2022.

The high-speed railway can take people to the three zones and make the travel time shorter between the Beijing and Zhangjiakou zones, only 50 minutes (station to station). Within each zone, the convenient public transport can take players to the stadiums or fields within 5 to 15 minutes from the Olympic Villages. In 2008, the 28th Summer Olympics were held in Beijing. In 2022, Beijing will become the first city to hold both the summer and winter Olympics.

The IOC(国际奥委会)said. "Beijing plans to use the Games to help with the development of winter sports, culture and tourist areas as well as people's interest in winter sports."
