On a dark night, a monk(僧人)was walking in a village to look for the real Buddha(佛). Then the monk saw a ray of light from the dark. One villager nearby said, “Blind Sun (a blind man), is coming.”

The monk felt completely puzzled. He asked Blind Sun, “Excuse me, are you really a blind man?” “Yes, I have been blind since I came to this world.” The blind man replied. The monk continued asking, “Since you could not see anything, why are you still holding a lantern(灯)?” The blind man said, “It is dark night now, isn't it? I heard that if there is not light on the dark night, all others in the world are also blind just like me. So lit up a lantern.” The monk said, “You lit up the lantern for others?” But the bind man replied, “No, I did it for myself. Have you ever ben run into by others on a dark night?” The monk said, “Yes. I was run into by two people just now.” The blind man said proudly, “But have not all the time. I hold a lantern in the dark so that I can light up others and at the same time let others see me. Then they will not run into me.”

I woke up with the blues. I knew this day would be nothing special for me, but I was wrong. My husband gave me the day off! He did the dishes, took care of the children, played and read with them, and took us all out for a delicious dinner. They gave me 4 hours of computer playtime. I felt very loved.

Me, a mother, and my one-year-old son went to my mother’s house on Mother’s Day. After a nice lunch, we spent the day driving home. When we got home, my husband made me dinner! Sometimes even the best friends have fights. They disagree with each other and begin to argue. Sometimes they even stop talking to each other.

What can be done to help the two friends make up? Finding a good friend who knows about both of them very well to be a peacemaker is a good way. Maybe one day you will be a peacemaker for your good friends. Here are some useful communication strategies for you to use:

◆ State your feelings clearly but don't criticize them. Begin with “I feel…” instead of “You always…”

◆ Don't stop the other person's sentences.

◆ Listen carefully to what the other person is saying. Try to see the other person's side of the disagreement.

◆ Look at the other person's eyes when you are talking.

◆ Ask questions to make sure that you understand the other person.

◆ Repeat the other person's ideas as you understand them.

Never put anyone down. Saying things like “You're stupid.” makes communication difficult.

Try to find a solution that makes the two friends happy. Never decide who is right and who is wrong. Instead, help them to find their own “win?win” solution. A “win?win” solution allows both of them to feel good. In this way, their friendship can be continued.
