The Spring Bud Project was organized by the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund(CCTF), under the leadership( 领导) of the All China Women’s Federation(联合会). The fund was started by Madam Zhou Jiebing, who donated 1 million Hong Kong dollars.

The purpose of the Spring Bud Project is to raise the quality of women’s education and ability from childhood. It has tried a lot to raise funds both at home and abroad and its aim is to help dropout girls in China’s poor, rural areas return to school.

In the past ten years, more than 10 million children in China have left schools because their families are too poor, and 70% of these dropouts are girls. In fact, girls’ education has become one of the most difficult problems in China. The CCTF wants to help hundreds of thousands of girls return to school, so it set up the Spring Bud Project.

Thanks to donations from so many people and organizations, by the end of 2009, the Spring Bud Project had raised 800 million yuan in total, built more than 1,000 Spring Bud schools, aided more than 2 million girls to return to school and provided technical training for more than 400,000 girls.
