Long time ago, there lived a young boy with his family in a small village.Because there was little water in the village, the boy woke up early every morning, carried his pot and headed for the river in order to get water.
On his way back from the river, he always met some old men who expected to drink water.This happened almost every time.He always gave them water though he would be punished by his stepmother.
One day, he couldn't stand the punishment from his stepmother, so he decided never to give anyone water.But on his way back home, he met a strange-looking man who was very thirsty.The strange man lay by the road and he was badly hurt.The boy remembered his vow (誓言), but he thought for a moment and then gave the strange man some water.When he got home, his stepmother noticed the half-filled pot, and again punished him.
A few days later, there was a knock on the door.It was a mailman.He came from the town with a letter for the boy.The letter contained a thank-you note with some money for the young boy.The writer of the letter said that he was very thankful for the boy's kindness.
