 I Am Or Is

Lee Ning is twelve. She is a middle school student. She is in Class 4,Grade 1. Her teacher is Mr Zhang,and Lee Ning’s English is not very good.

One day Mr Zhang asks his students to make a sentence with(用造句) “I” in his English class. He looks at the boys and girls and says, “it’s your turn now. ”

Lee Ning stands up and says, “ ‘ I,is . Mr Zhang stops (p且止) her and says impatiently (不耐烦地) ,“I have told you again and again not to say ‘I’ is,understand?”

“Yes,sir.,’

“ Go on,Lee Ning,” he says.

“ ‘ I’ am the ninth letter in the English alphabet(字母表) ,” Lee Ning says in a loud voice(声音) .

All the students laugh (笑) .Mr Zhang’s face is red. He says, “I’m very sorry. I should not stop you before you finish (完成) the sentence. ”

  Jane Warner's husband, Jack,was sent to prison for two years for stealing. While he was in prison, Jane had a very difficult time.      

  She had two children, but no job. Her husband, of course,did not make any money either. The only money she had was a small amount from the government."I don't know how we will manage," she wrote to her husband in prison. "I get only enough money to pay the rent. There isn't enough money for food. I think I'll have to plant vegetables in the garden. They'll grow quickly. We can live on vegetables.”

  The police immediately went to Jack's house. They took forks and shovels with them. They dug up the garden, looking for the money, but they did not find anything. When they had gone,Mrs Warner wrote to her husband.

  "The police came today," she wrote. "They dug up all the grass. What should I do?" Her husband wrote back immediately, "Plant the vegetables."

 There is a bar(酒吧) in our town with the name "The White Cat". It is Mr Webster's. Few people went to the bar last year,but things are quite different now.

" After that the man sat down and drank something.

  Then another man came in and said the same thing, and then another and another. A lot of people came in and said, "The picture on your door is wrong,”and then they all stopped and drank in Mr Webster's bar.
