【题目】Up to 65% of children don't get as much sleep as they should do, and this can make them nervous and slower at school, scientists say.

So how long should young people sleep each night? The answer is between eight and ten hours. If you don't get enough sleep at night, you'll have less energy the next day.

But the scientists say many children have missed out on 4, 500 hours of sleep by the time they are seven years old. They say that children miss sleep because they have TVs and computers in their rooms, and busy parents don't read to their younger children at night any more. The traditional "bedtime story" helps children to relax and fall asleep peacefully. Children with TVs and computers in their bedrooms are more likely to sleep badly, and to get less than eight hours' sleep. Even losing one hour's sleep a night can mean that children do less well at school.

German scientists think that your brain(大脑)keeps working while you are asleep. To show that they were right, they gave two groups of people a problem to work out. One group went to sleep, and the other group stayed awake. The result? The people who slept worked out the answer

more quickly. This showed that their brains had been trying to find the answer while the people were asleep. So, make sure you get enough sleep tonight, and you'll be at your best tonight, and you'll be at your best tomorrow!

【题目】Do animals have a culture? What do we mean by "culture"? Recently social scientists have begun to ask if culture is found just in humans, or if some animals have a culture too. When we speak of culture, we mean a way of life that a group of people have in common. Culture is the forms of behavior (行为)hat help people to live together. Habits in Russia

There is an old saying that says when in Rome, do as the Romans do. I learned the meaning of this when I stayed in Russia as a visiting scholar(学者).

One day I invited some of my Chinese friends to a famous local restaurant in Moscow. My guests and I were excited about our meeting. We had a lively talk until the waiter told me that we were too loud. We lowered(降低) our voices. 1 The waiter came over to us two more times with the same message.

How bad an impression(印象) we must have left on the local people! In China, it's natural and important for a host(主人) to make a lively atmosphere(气氛). However, in Russia and Western countries, having a meal in a public place means you must keep your voice low. 2 I felt bad about this.3

4 My Russian friend Andrey always looks around and thinks for a while before leaving home. I asked him why he did this. “Aha,” Andrey said, “In Russia, people always spend about a minute going over things and plans in their minds before leaving home. 5

Finding the differences between cultures is so much fun. I like to keep my eyes and mind open.

ABut this didn't last long.

BRussians have their own special habits, too.

CYou need to be polite to others.

DSo they won't leave anything necessary behind.

ELuckily, people usually do not pay much attention to that in Russia.

FEven though we tried our best, it's very difficult to fight against habits.
