People drive their vehicles through lovely cows,which is a traditional Indian sight. However,India's cows are not very lovely.

In India,there are nearly 485 million animals,and half of them are cows. Cows work much more to global warming (全球变暖)than vehicles. Why? Because they produce a great number of CH4—a greenhouse gas,and it causes 20 times more heat than C02. But can Indians kill cows to solve the problem? Certainly not. As the world's largest producer of milk,India will still have to increase the dairy (乳品业)production to keep up with its growing population. So cows play an important role in the life.

Scientists are designing diets to help cows eat better. In this way,they will make unpleasant gas less. But most Indian farmers can only afford to buy poor food for their cows. So many farmers add herbs (草药)to the food now. The herbs are cheap and they can produce less CH4. And the cows don't seem to mind the taste.

Besides,quite a few projects are going on. One of them is biogas production — cows' waste is used as energy in kitchens and vehicles. It helps stop global warming.
