When I was twelve years old I wanted nothing more than to be accepted onto a club baseball team. If I made a team like that I would be playing with the best competition for my age in Massachusetts and some teams from all over the country. I have always had a great understanding of the game and played very well but never at that level. I played baseball all summer and it was time for tryouts(选拔赛) in the fall. The team I tried out for was the South Shore Baseball Club or “The Seadogs.” On the field I was very nervous and didn’t play as well as I knew I could. A week later I received a letter saying “Thank you for participating (参加)in our tryout, however we have a limited(有限的) amount of spots on our club and we will not be inviting you to play on the team. Better luck next year.”

After they sent me that letter I stopped playing competitive baseball. I only played for my town baseball team. ①很幸运地是,我遇到了爸爸是教练的Jimmy Perron, 一个很棒的球员。 He thought I was good at baseball. Soon, I got to another tryout. I tried my absolute(完全地) hardest and did well.

About one week later, a letter came to my house.② I couldn’t wait to cut it open and read, “James, you are invited to play for the Mass Pride Baseball organization in the ’09season.” I had reached my goal. But it doesn’t end there. I already have a new goal. I hope to be able to play ball on the college level someday.
