How to keep more food on the table

It's said that in some parts of the world, people are facing the problem of hunger. So what can we do to help them? Here are some tips:

Cook from the fridge

Start with the fresh food. If you have some in the fridge, use it first. Make a meal with what you have got instead of running out to the supermarket for something else. You’ll probably save more time using what's on hand.

Learn to read the labels (标签)

"Best-before" and " use-by” dates are more important. Learn to know the different periods of food and know what foods are good for. For example, black bananas are proper for baking, fresh vegetables are good in soups, bread that is not fresh can be turned into small pieces.

Use the freezer (冷冻室)

The freezer can keep food fresh until you are ready to cook it,then store the cooked food until you’re ready to eat it. It's als.jtlpe best place for the remaining food. Mark the date of the foo^ffearby,so it's easy to find the food you need to eat first and will nevej: leave it there for too long.

Shop with a list

Plan meals ahead of time so that you know exactly what to buy. Doing this helps reduce food waste because it's possible to buy too much of a certain food and then forget to eat or cook it later.

Have you ever thought of the reason why dogs are human's best friends? What's the bond (关系) between humans and dogs? A new study by a Japanese scientist Miho Naeasawa seems to have found the answer, and @ has something to do with the cuddle (裯抱) chemical.

The cuddle chemical has another, more scientific name: oxytocin (催产素) .Oxytocin is something in the blood that encourages bonding. Levels of oxytocin increase, for example, when a mother feeds her newborn baby. According to Nagasawa9s study, levels of oxytocin can also go up when we look deeply into the eyes of a dog.

Humans and dogs have been working together for nearly 30,000 years. In order to better understand how the cuddle chemical worked between dogs and humans,Nagasawa and his team did an experiment. They tested levels of oxytocin in dogs and humans, and then put them in a room to interact (交流) with each other. While in the room, the humans pet the dogs, spoke to the dogs, and looked into the dogs’ eyes. Then the scientists tested their levels of oxytocin again.

The researchers found that levels of oxytocin were higher in both humans and dogs after they interacted. However, levels were the highest in the humans and dogs that simply looked into each other's eyes, without much petting or talking. The longer the humans looked into the eyes of the dogs, the more cuddle chemical was let out. Nagasawa did the same

experiment with humans and wolves (狼) ,but it did not give the same results.

Robots

Robots seem very new to most people. But they have a long history. The first one was made by a Greek (希腊人) inventor in the 1920s. You may have seen robots in some fields. The robots in these fields are stronger, faster and much cleverer than people.

In real life, most robots are used in factories. They are used to do many dangerous, difficult or boring jobs. Some people can't look after themselves and robots are used to help, for example, some people can't see. Many of these people use a dog to help themselves move around. This dog is called a guide d^. Scientists are making a robot to help them. In the future, robot dogs might take the place of these guide dogs.

One kind of robot guide dog has wheels. It moves in front of the owner. It is very clever. It knows

the speed of its owner,s walk. The owner wears a special belt (带子). This belt sends instructions to the

owner from the dog, such as “Stop here,Turn left or Turn right .

In the United States, another kind of robot helps disabled people to take care of themselves in their daily life. The robot hears the sound of its owner, s voice. It follows instructions such as Turn the page or “Make a cup of coffee”.

Robots are also used in American hospitals. At one hospital a robot take meals from the kitchen to the sick people s rooms. It never loses its way because it has a map of the hospital in its computer memory.

In the future, robots will work in space. But robots will never take the place of human beings (人类) .They can, however, help us in a lot difficult ways.
