Just a Quick Nap

Do you feel a little sleepy after lunch? Well, that's normal. Your body naturally slows down then. What should you do about it? Don't reach for a coffee!Instead, take a nap.

It's good to have a daily nap. First of all,you are more efficient (效率高的) after napping. You remember things better and make fewer mistakes. Also, you can learn things more easily after taking a nap. A nap may increase your selfconfidence (自信) and make you more active. It may even cheer you up. But,there are some simple rules you should follow about taking a nap. First, take a nap in the middle of day, about eight hours after you wake up. Next,a 20-minute nap is best. If you sleep longer, you may fall into a deep sleep. After waking from a deep sleep, you will feel worse. Also, you should set an alarm clock. That way,you can fully relax during your nap. You won't have to keep looking at the clock so you don't oversleep (睡过头) .

Now,the next time you feel sleepy after lunch, don't get stressed. Put your head down, close your eyes, and catch forty winks (眨眼) .

Here are some suggestions given by the English children posted on the website about how to help Africa. Which one do you think is the best?

I think health is the   most important thing. We need to make sure that the money we

give is spent wisely. The money should be spent first on clean water   supplies and better

health care.

—Robin, aged 16, Birmingham

I think the most   important thing is to improve the education of the African countries.

There is an old saying, "If you give a man a fish, you'll feed   him for a day. If you teach

him how to fish, you'll feed him for a lifetime. " We need to   help people to help

themselves, not just throw money at the problem when it appears(出现).

―Rebecca , aged 15 , Liverpool

People seem to give a lot   more money to charity(慈善机构)when there is a sudden,

huge disaster(灾难)like the earthquake. It's good for people to   do so. But I also think

that we should give a small part of our salary(工资)to charity as well. If everyone did

that, it would make a big difference.

―Mary, aged 14, Stratford-on-Avon

Giving money to charity   can help, but it's not the final answer. I think what these

countries need is a good government.

―Bethany, aged 16, Newcastle

The best thing we can do   is to send experts(专家)like engineers, doctors and

teachers to help the people to help themselves.

―Robert, aged 16, Cardiff

"Oh,dear! It's a quarter past eight already. ” I was afraid that I might be late for school,so I jumped out of bed quickly and washed my face. Then I hurried to the bus stop without breakfast. The busdriver got off the bus, then got on the bus again and said, "I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen. There is something wrong with the bus. Please get off and wait for another one." "I couldn't wait. The school isn't far. I'd better run to the school," I thought, and then I began to run. But before I got there,it began to rain hard.

I reached the classroom shivering (颤抖) with cold. The physics teacher had already begun his lesson. It was Mr. Smith. He was about fifty years old. All the students were a little afraid of him and I was, too. I liked neither him nor his lesson. I hesitated (犹豫) for a moment, then I opened the door. "I'm sorry,Mr. Smith," I said with a red face.

"It's you again,Jim," Mr. Smith said angrily. "I've told you not to be late, but you. . . " he suddenly stopped and looked at my wet clothes. He turned to the class and said, "I'm very sorry, boys and girls. " With these words he quickly took off his own jacket and handed it to me. "Now take off your wet coat and put on this one,or you'll catch cold," he said kindly.

I went to my seat with Mr. Smith's jacket on. It was a bit large for me,but I felt very warm in it. I found, for the first time, physics was so interesting, and how well I could understand it!

Young people and older people do not always agree. They sometimes have different ideas about living, working and playing. But in one special (特别的) program in New York State, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly way.

Each summer,200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy, but to find meaning and fun in work. Some teenagers work in the forests or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and to build houses. The adults teach them these skills.

There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours, some of the teenagers learn phototaking or drawing. Others sit around and talk or sing. Each teenager chooses his own way to pass his free time.

When people live together, they should have rules. In this program, the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. If someone breaks a rule, the problem goes before the whole group. They talk about it and ask, "Why did it happen? What should we do about it?"

One of the teenagers has said something about it, "You have to stop thinking only about yourself. You learn how to think about the group."
