19．The bicycle is the most popular form of two-wheeled transport in the world but the self-balancing electric scooter （踏板车） is now a big hit．Also commonly known as a hoverboard （as shown in the picture），it is a rechargeable （可充电的） battery-powered scooter．The hoverboard consists of two wheels arranged side-by-side，with two small boards between the wheels，on which the rider stands．
The hoverboard looks like a skateboard but they are much different because the hoverboard is driven by electricity．It is controlled by the rider's feet．When riders lean （倾斜） forwards，it will move forwards．When they lean back，the wheels will slow down and stop．But if they lean even further back，they actually move backwards．People need to take a lot of practice to keep the balance and control the hoverboard．
Although it is really great fun to try one of these hoverboards，especially for kids and teenagers，there are some clear weak points．Several injuries have been reported from board-related accidents．A 15-year-old boy was knocked down by a bus while riding the
hoverboard．House fires happened during charging （给…充电） the battery．In some countries，the government has been aware of its weaknesses and has taken action．For example，in England and Wales，hoverboard can be used only in private places with the landowner's permissions．Riding it on public streets or roads is forbidden．
