Reading is wonderful. We can get knowledge by reading. Reading can open our minds. Reading makes us confident and happy.

Read good books. Proper books that can improve ourselves are better choice. You should read in a right way. Try to think about more while reading.

【题目】 Chinese are very generous(慷慨的,大方的) when it comes to educating their children. Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States or Australia. They also want their children to take extra-course ( 额外的课程 ) activities where they will either learn music or dance, or other classes that will give them a head start in life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend an unreasonable amount of money on education. Even poor couples will buy a computer for their son or daughter.

However, what most parents fail to see is that the best early education they can give their children is usually very cheap.

Parents can see that their children’s skills are different, maybe good in some areas ,but poor in others. Most parents fail to realize that today’s children are in need of self-respect and self-confidence.

The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take tests and how to study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills they need to be confident, happy and clever.

Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework.Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking requires patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of self-confidence.

Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious (好奇的) and have interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to fix them; your child might become an engineer when he grows up. These activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but rather to think, to use his mind. And that is more important.

1What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A. Parents care about their money. when educating their children.

B. Parents don’t often send their children to the best schools.

C. Parents seldom want their children to take extra-course activities.

D. Parents spend much money on the education without thinking.

2Most Chinese parents don’t realize __________.

A. how much the best education is worth

B. when children should be educated

C. what children really need in later life

D. why school tests don’t satisfy children

3The writer’s attitude(态度) to children’s education is that __________.

A. the cheaper an education is, the better it is

B. children today should learn different skills

C. practical skills are helpful to children’s growth

D. school education can’t meet parents’ expectations

Paperless homework will affect students’ handwriting

A growing number of primary schools in Shanghai are now encouraging “paperless” homework. Instead of writing with a pen, children can finish their homework simply by “surfing and typing” on their iPad screens.

Many people welcome the use of this new technology in schools. And it isn’t difficult to understand why digital homework could be the next big thing in education: it reduces waste; makes it easier for teachers to collect homework; and now that everything else is digitalized, homework should too.

But there’s an overlooked downside to online homework, as it shows an alarming trend(趋势): how technology is affecting physical handwriting.

In today’s digital age, handwriting is already a weakening skill. Can you remember the last time you used a pen? For me, it was when I had to fill out a form at work. To be honest, I couldn’t write quite a few characters and had to type them on my iPhone to remind me of how to write them correctly. I know I’m not alone. There are more saying they share similar embarrassment (尴尬) when asked to write by hand.

In a time when computers, smart phones and keyboards are widely used in the world, is handwriting even important? The answer is yes. Handwriting plays an important role in the learning process. Writing a character is more difficult than typing. It requires the body and mind work together actively. So for school-age children, writing not only allows them to memorize characters, but also trains their brains the way typing can’t.

Too many children, lost in technology, lie on a sofa or in bed with their smartphones or iPads — a seldom mentioned side effect of modern technology, which may lead to physical problems later.

All said, I’m not saying that digital homework should be canceled. Digitalization is an unstoppable trend. But for courses such as Chinese and English language, I hope to see digital homework introduced later into the courses, at least after children have had the ability to write characters and spell words well.
