Have you ever seen the Disney movie The Jungle Book(《奇幻森林》)？It's actually adapted(改编)from a book.

The Jungle Book is a collection of stories by the English writer Rudyard Kipling. The stories were first published in magazines in 1893～1894. Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England,he went back to India and worked there for about six and a half years. These stories were written when Kipling lived in Vermont of the US. It is said that the collection of stories was written for his daughter Josephine,who died in 1899 at the age of six.

The stories in the book are fables(寓言),using animal characters to give meaningful lessons. The poem The Law of the Jungle,for example,lays down rules for the safety of individuals(个人),families,and communities. Kipling put in nearly everything he knew or “heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle”.The best-known of them are the three stories about the adventure of Mowgli,an abandoned(遗弃的)human being who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle.
