题目内容

A mouse and a frog were friends. Every morning the frog would jump out of his pond and go to visit his friend who lived in a hole in the side of a tree. He would return home at noon. The mouse was happy to have his friend’s company(陪伴) but he didn’t realize(意识到)that his friend was slowly turning into an enemy. The reason is that the frog felt unfair because he visited the mouse every day but the mouse never visited him.

One day, the frog had an idea. When it was time for him to take leave of (辞别)the mouse, he tied one end of a string around his own leg, tied the other end to the mouse’ s tail, and went away with the mouse behind him. The frog dived deep into the pond. The mouse tried to free himself but couldn’t, and soon was dead in water.

A hawk saw the mouse floating on the ponds surface. He swooped down(俯冲), caught the mouse and flew to the branch of a nearby tree. The frog, of course was pulled out of the water too. He tried to free himself, but couldn’ t and became the hawk’s food soon.

In Africa, they have a saying: Don’t dig too deep a pit(深坑)for your enemy, because you may fall into it yourself.

We use the Internet for many things: business, shopping, writing letters, talking to people, finding information and so on. Nowadays a new kind of English has grown on the Internet. There’s no real word for it yet, so we’ll call it e-talk.

People don’t like typing too much. To save time, they turn phrases into a few letters (called acronyms).Acronyms are often used in chat rooms(聊天室). Some of them are:

People also use many abbreviations (缩写). They are shortened forms of words. Some common abbreviations are:

info (information) purer (computer)

pic (picture) sec (second)

We usually don’t see people when we talk on the Net, so people have new ways to show feelings. Most people use their keywords to draw “feelings”, such as:

:-) (happy) :)- (joking) :-( (sad) :-o (surprised)

These days, many forums (论坛) have picture feelings. For example:

(happy) (sad) (angry)(cool)

There are even whole new words, like “newbies” (someone who is new on a chat board or forum). When you write something bad about someone else, it’s called “flaming” the person.

It takes time for people to get used to e-talk. Also, different groups on the Net have their own special ways of communicating(交流). Newbies sometimes have to ask other people what they mean. As the Internet grows, e-talk will continue to grow and change.
