I shall never forget the day when the earthquake took place. The time was 5:15 in the afternoon and I was driving along the road to my daughter from school. Our plan was to go together. I had finished work at about 4 o’clock and then gone to the post office. Then I stopped off at a shop in order to get some fruit. We like to have some fruit to eat after our swim when we would feel tired.

I was driving along a high road on my way to the school. Over my road was another way for cars coming the other way. I was so I put the bag of apples in the seat me and started to eat one.

Suddenly I saw the cars in front of me start to move from side to side. I slowed down. Then started to shake. I didn’t know what was happening. something had gone wrong with my car. I drove even slower. I stopped the car and at the same moment the road fell onto the cars in front of me.

I found myself in the dark. I couldn’t move. The bottom parts of both my legs and my were hurting badly and I couldn’t move them. All around me was . But above me I could hear shouts and a lot of noise. Then I remembered what had happened. I had been in an earthquake.

For about two hours nobody came. Luckily I could the bag of apples, so at least I had plenty to eat. Then I people climbing towards me. A team of people had come to see if anyone was under the broken . I called out! “I’m here!” I heard a shout, soon climbed to the side of the bridge near my car, “How are you doing?” he asked. “Not too bad,” I said, “but my feet and legs as if(似乎) they’re broken.” “We’ll have you out of there just as soon as we can,” he said. They didn’t get me out the next morning. I had been in my car for 14 hours.

My sister Alli and I have been trying to get people to stop dropping cigarette butts(烟蒂) for seven years. One day, we were walking in our hometown and saw hundreds of cigarette butts on the ground. They made the town look so ugly that we decided to start a group to make people stop dropping butts. We called it “No Butts About It”. At first, we drew pictures with “The Earth is Not Your Ashtray(烟灰缸)” written on them. We put the pictures around our hometown---in parks, by beaches, and along roads. We wanted to make people understand that dropping butts hurts the environment. Most smokers don’t think that dropping butts hurts the earth. But it does! All rubbish does. Later, we wrote to companies and asked them for money to help us. We used the money to buy ashtrays to give smokers. We wanted smokers to carry the ashtrays with them so they didn’t have to drop butts. At the moment, we are trying to get cigarette companies to put an ashtray in each pack of cigarettes. Some companies want to do it.

Many people have started to join our group since it began. Today there are 45 other “No Butts About It” groups in America. And there are even groups in England, Australia and India! Many newspapers have written about my sister and I over the last seven years. And we have won many prizes for our good work.

But we are not interested in prizes. We just want to make the earth a better and cleaner place for animals, plants and people. One day it will be.

Blame(责备) is one of the biggest problems that we meet in everyday life. 1. And when that doesn't happen, we blame other people, places or events that we think are the causes of our unhappiness.

Everything we feel comes from within us. 2.

If we create unhappiness for ourselves, the world will show us that unhappiness, but if we create joy, peace, and love for ourselves, this is what we will get back.

Can blame solve any problems? 3. When people did something hat makes us angry, afraid or hurt, we are doing nothing more than showing them the anger we feel inside.

We have choices about things that make us unhappy. We sometimes prefer to take the easier choices, the ones that keep us in our comfort zone(地带). 4. Sometimes we just have to go beyond our comfort zone, which may mean facing something we don't like. Perhaps we feel like a victim(受害者) and don't stand up for ourselves or speak up when we feel that people don't respect us. Maybe we are afraid of a situation, so we run away from it, instead of facing it with inner strength.

Whatever the problem is, we have a choice every day to face it with blame, fear, anger, guilt(内疚), or with love, kindness, peace. 5. Don't blame. Enjoy your day.
