A garden that's just right for you

Have you ever visited a garden that seemed just right for you, where the atmosphere of the garden appeared to total more than the sum (总和) of its parts? 1. But it doesn't happen by accident. It starts with looking inside yourself and understanding who you are with respect to the natural world and how you approach the gardening process.

2

Some people may think that a garden is no more than plants, flowers, patterns and masses of color. Others are concerned about using gardening methods that require less water and fewer fertilizers (肥料). 3. However, there are a number of other reasons that might explain why you want to garden. One of them comes from our earliest years.

●Recall (回忆) your childhood memories

Our model of what a garden should be often goes back to childhood. Grandma's rose garden and Dad's vegetable garden might be good or bad, but that's not what's important. 4—how being in those gardens made us feel. If you'd like to build a powerful bond with your garden, start by taking some time to recall the gardens of your youth. 5 Then go outside and work out a plan to translate your childhood memories into your grown-up garden. Have fun.

A.Know why you garden

B.Find a good place for your own garden

C.It's our experience of the garden that matters

D.It's delightful to see so many beautiful flowers

【题目】 An old cowboy was riding his trusty horse followed by his honesty dog along an uncommon road. The man was enjoying the new scenery(风景), when he suddenly remembered dying. He realized that the dog beside him had been dead for years and so had his horse. He wondered what was happening, and where the road was leading them.

After a while, they saw a tall arch topped by golden letter "H" and a gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl. The street that led to the gate looked like gold.

He rode toward the gate and saw a man at a desk. Thirsty and tired out by his journey, he called out," Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the cowboy asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water for you."

"Can I bring my partners, too?"

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The cowboy thought for a moment, then turned back to the road and continued riding, his dog running by his side.

After another long ride, he came to a dirt road leading through a gate that looked as if it had never been closed. As he went closer to the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. “Excuse me,” he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Sure, there's a pump right over there. Help yourself."

"How about my friends here?" the cowboy pointed at the dog and his horse.

"Of course! They look thirsty, too," said the man.

The three went through the gate and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with buckets(水桶)beside it. The cowboy took a long drink, as did his horse and dog. "What do you call this place?" the cowboy asked the man who was still standing by the tree.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"That's strange," the cowboy said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the shinning, gold street and fake pearly gates? That's Hell." "Doesn't it make you angry when they use your name like that?"

"Not at all. Actually, we’re happy they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

That bottle of water you paid $ 1 to $ 3 for may contain (包含) tiny pieces of plastic, according to a new report. A recent study tested 259 water bottles from 11 brands sold across nine countries, including the United States, and found that 93% of those tested contained microplastics (微塑料) pollution.

Sherri Mason, a researcher of the State University of New York said that 65% of the plastic pieces were “chips” of plastic, and contained the plastic which was used to make some bottle cups.

“I think it is coming through the process of bottling the water,” Mason said. “I think that most of the plastic that we are seeing is coming from the bottle itself, it is coming from the cup, it is coming from the industrial process of bottling the water.”

Researchers remind that it’s unclear what influence microplastics can have on the human body. And, microplastics have been found in everything, ranging from fish and shelllish (贝类) sold in the supermarket to tap water.

The International Bottled Water Association President and CEO Joe Doss said in a research, “The study isn’t based on science, and the study’s findings do nothing more than unnecessarily scare customers. Customers can remain confident that bottled water products, like all food and drinks, are strictly regulated (管理) by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration are safe for users. The bottled water industry is always trying to provide customers with the safest and highest quality products.”

The World Health Organization told BBC that it is doing a survey on the hidden risks of drinking bottled water.
