　　For almost two months Dominic York, a 23-year-old hairdresser, wandered about hospitals at night, wearing a white coat and pretending he was a doctor．Yesterday he proudly claimed in court(法庭)that despite his complete lack of medical experience of qualifications(资格), he had saved several people's lives．He had even been allowed to assist(协助)a surgeon during an emergency operation on a patient who was about to die on something she had swallowed．

　　“I watched one of those TV dramas about a hospital and suddenly felt like playing one of the roles myself．So I put on a white jacket and a stethoscope(听诊器)and walked around one of the biggest hospitals in London．At first I just watched．Once you learn how doctors talk to patients, nurses and other doctors, it's easy to take people in．”he said．

　　One of the patients he treated was Laura Kennan．She had been knocked down by a car and fainted．When she came to herself in hospital, York was standing over her．

　　“He looked very professional．He told me his name was Doctor Simon．Then he gave me some sort of injection(注射),”she said．And then he suddenly cleared off when a nurse asked who he was．She didn't think there was anything wrong．“I would never have realized he was fake if a policewoman hadn't showed me his photograph a week later．When the policewoman told me who he really was, I could hardly believe my eyes．”

　　Judge Raymond Adams told York that he was“shocked and horrified”that he got away with his deceiving(欺骗)for so long, and then sentenced him to eighteen months in a special prison for criminals with mental disorders．

Last week, we were told how some international students have few friends in their host countries when they study overseas. Student Union blogger Jessica Stahl watched the problem closely. Her study showed 75% of foreign students said they had more than 2 American friends. But 10% reported having no American friends.

Communications specialist Elisabeth Gareis also studied the problem. She says efforts on how to improve relationships between the two groups of students have yet to be studied in detail, but these efforts should begin with the university, and that these universities have been working hard. “Universities should build a bridge that improves the communication. And they can do that by, for example, designing activities at the beginning of the term.” She suggests taking walks, going on bicycle, field or camping trips, and attending parties, sporting events or film festivals. She says such activities should be held repeatedly to bring students together throughout the school term. Ms. Gareis also suggests that foreign students share housing with American students.

Many volunteers from universities and communities are trained and prepared to help foreign students. They assist new students as they complete government papers and find their academic (学业上的)advisors. They also help answer the traditional questions of new people anywhere. “Where do I get an ID card? Which is the best bank? How do I get a driver's license?” That kind of information is shared.

Experts believe that if the new students make friends as they begin school, they will come to feel part of the life and traditions of the university.
