Terrafugia Inc. said that its new flying car has completed its first flight, bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car next year. The flying car named the Transition has two seats, four wheels and wings that can be folded, so it can be driven like a car. The Transition, which flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes last month, can reach about 70 miles every hour on the road and 115 miles in the air. It burns around 23 gallons(加仑)of gas every hour in the air.

_________ Around 500 people have already prepaid(预付)$10,000 for getting a Transition when they go on sale. It’s reported that more and more people would like to have one, after Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public at the New York Auto Show. But it may be impossible to show up on too many driveways. It’s expected to cost $279,000 each. And it won’t help if you’re in a heavy traffic. The car needs a runway.

Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s. According to Robert Mann, an airline scientist, Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the car really fly in the sky.

The government has already agreed the company to use special materials to make it easier for the car to fly. The Transition is now going through tests to make sure it is safe.

Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition, the airline pilots would find it easy to control the car.
