Rapping in style. What is the hottest catchphrase (流行语) this summer? It probably is: “Can you freestyle?”

In the music program The Rap of China, judge Kris Wu asked this question to the singers many times. The show is trying to find the most talented rappers (说唱歌手) in China. But do you know what rap and freestyle are?

Rap, a style of hip-hop music, usually focuses more on the lyrics (歌词)than music. Rappers use a lot of slang (俚语) in their lyrics. And importantly, they make them rhyme (押韵).

The music was created during the 1980s in the United States. It first became popular among young black people living in poor areas of New York City.

Many rap songs are about love, jobs and peace. But sometimes singers also express their anger through rapping. It’s true that some songs include bad things like rude language. These songs are not suitable for children.

Rappers not only write songs, they also do “freestyle” rapping. They think up lyrics randomly (即兴地) and rap them out. Only rappers with talent and experience are good at it.

US rapper Eminem can freestyle amazingly well. There is even a movie called 8 Mile telling of how he wins a freestyle rapping competition.

Jin Au-Yeung, also known as “MC Jin”, is a Chinese freestyle rapper. Some say he is the best in China. You can also watch him on The Rap of China. Chinese hip-hop on the rise.

Chip was in first Grade when I arrived at his school as a counselor (辅导员). It was surprising to me that he was described as an angry, uncontrollable and evil (惹人厌的) boy. How could such a little boy, after being in school only one year, be considered "evil"? Over the next several months, I came to know Chip well enough to see that he was neither evil nor uncontrollable.

But, one day, Chip threw a chair at his teacher and was sent to my office. I asked him what made him do this. He replied that his teacher hated him. He felt there was no way to ever get her to like him. I asked him if he would tell his teacher this. He nodded, and we called her into my office.

When the teacher came, . He then said that he knew he was a very, very bad boy, and he didn't think anyone could ever like him. His teacher listened to him with heartfelt compassion. Then she gave him a big warm hug, telling him she didn't hate him at all and, actually, she cared very much about him. Only sometimes she dislikes Chip's behavior. It was clear to both Chip and me that she really meant it.

I put my left arm on his shoulders and the right hand on his heart. I told him how wonderful and lovely I saw him to be. I praised how special and brave he was to express his hurt feeling.

As I was speaking to him, his whole body came to rest on my right hand next to his heart. It was a moment in time unlike anything I had experienced before. From then on, I'm pleased to find his behavior better through the rest of school years.

A kidnapped (被绑架的)3-year-old boy named Aiden helped police find him on Tuesday, 13th January, after answering his mom’s phone in her stolen (被偷走的) car!

Authorities (官方) say they found a 3-year-old boy who was sitting in a car stolen outside a Utah day care center on Tuesday after he answered his mother’s cellphone and honked the horn (喇叭) to draw their attention.

The boy’s mother, Elizabeth Barrios, left the car unlocked (未上锁的) and running on a snowy morning as she dropped off another child, a baby, at the day care center around 7 a.m. in Ogden, a town about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, police said. When she walked out, she saw someone driving her car away with her 3-year-old son Aiden inside.

Police arrived and called her cellphone, which was in the car, hoping to reach the thief and negotiate (商定) the boy’s release (释放), Lt. Tim Scott said.

Instead, the boy answered the phone. He told his mother that a stranger had driven away with her car and was going through her purse. She told him to stay calm as the man took things from her purse and ran away.

When the man was gone, officers told him to honk the horn and followed the sound to the car. “He was scared (害怕), but it was a good thing at his age that he was able to get himself out of his child seat and honk the horn,” Scott said.

Police reunited (使重逢) the boy with his mother about 20 minutes after the car was stolen. Officers are searching for the suspect. “He left my son. That’s all that matters to me,” Elizabeth Barrios told reporters on Tuesday.

“He is a very smart child,” Scott said. “He did a great job.”
