Electronic books have changed the way many people read for . Now online textbooks are changing the way some students learn and some teachers teach.

More than students go to the public schools in Fairfax County, Virginia, outside Washington. Last year, the school system used digital books in fifteen schools. This school year, middle schools and high schools changed printed to electronic textbooks in their social studies classes.

“High tech” and “state of the art” are two expressions that describe very modern technology(技术). High tech is just a shorter way of saying high technology. And high technology describes any invention (发明) or system that uses the newest ideas or discoveries of science and engineering.

What is high tech? A computer is high tech. So is a communications satellite(卫星). A modern manufacturing (制造业的) system is surely high tech.

High tech became a popular expression in the United States during the early 1980’s.
