Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston,Massachusetts on January 17 ,1706. Though he loved to study,he went to school only for two years. He dropped out of school for helping his father make money to support his family.Life and IBooks were his teachers.As a sea lover and a great swimmer,being a great sailor was a dream all his lifetime.

After leaving school,Benjamin went to work as a printing (印刷) apprentice (学徒) in his brother’s publishing company.Ben's brother was not easy to get along with and sometimes shouted at Ben. Under such circumstances (环境），Ben was made to run away to Philadelphia,where he got a job as a printer.In 1728,he opened a print shop with a friend.He was a good businessman,worked long hours and made a lot of money.

Ben loved to experiment,especially with electricity. As is known to all,he proved lhal lightning (闪电) was electricity by flying a kite in a lightning storm. He made many other important inventions as well and he let everyone use his inventions and never accepted any money for them. While he lived in Philadelphia,he helped organize the first hospital and the first fire department. To improve the city,Philadelphia,he started the first lending library in America. He made the lighting of the city streets and the postal service better. Benjamin Franklin was indeed a great man in American history.
