In England, people can go to the nearby hospital to see a doctor when they are ill. The doctor usually asks about their problems or illness, and then he or she will give them a prescription (处方) for some medicine.

Not all people go to see a doctor when they feel sick. For example, when they only have a cold, they don’t go to see their doctors. They only go to the medicine shop to buy some medicine.

When people are badly ill, the doctor will go to their houses. In an emergency(紧急情况) people can call 999 for an ambulance. The ambulance can take them to the hospital very soon. When they are in hospital, their friends or family members can go to see them at a certain time, but they can’t stay long.

Usually people have to pay for the doctors' prescriptions. And the price is the same for any kind of medicine. But when children, students, old people or people without jobs go to see their doctors, they don' t have to pay for their prescriptions.

Dear Dr. Manners,

My close friend seldom(很少)says “please”. She will say “Can you get me that bag? ”or “Move it over here! ”I have told her a lot of times that it is polite to use “please” and “thank you”, but she hardly remembers. I feel that she is ordering(命令)me around without “please”, and I always get annoyed.

We have been close friends for over 10 years, this has always been there. It seems that I can’t stand it any more. What should I do? Can you help me?

Sincerely,

Linda

Dear Linda,

When your friend does not use polite words, it seems that she is ordering you to do something. So you have every right(权利)to hate her behaviors.

Ask her why she doesn’t use “please” and “thank you”. Explain to her that it makes you uncomfortable. Also, you don’t want to do anything for her because she doesn’t seem kind or pleasant when she asks you to.

Your friend was probably never taught how to use “please” and “thank you” in normal conversation. So you can try to teach her that. Remember that it is difficult to find another close friend if you lose one.

Yours,

Dr. Manners

Where has the Time gone is the hottest song that has moved thousands of Chinese. Chinese parents give their children endless love and ask nothing in return. However, sometimes, daughters

and sons are too busy growing up and forget that their parents are getting older and older. What

should we do? Let's have a look at a letter of a father's.

Dear son,

One day if you see me old and I am not myself to understand me. If I get dirty when eating.., If I cannot dress..., have patience. Remember the hours I spent teaching it to you. when I speak to you, I say the same things one thousand and one times, do not stop me and listen to me. When you were small, I had to read to you one thousand and one times the same story until you got to sleep.

When I do not want to have a shower, neither shame(羞耻) me nor scold(责备) me. Remember when I had to catch you with a thousand excuses I invented, so that you wanted to bath.

When you see me meet something new, give me more time and don't laugh at me. I taught you how to do so many things... to eat well, to dress well….to face life.

If I do not want to eat, do not force me. I know well when I need to and when not. When my

legs do not allow me to walk, give me your hand the same way I did when you gave your first steps.

When sometimes I forget anything, let me have more time to remember. And if I cannot do it,

do not become angry because the most important thing is not what I said, but to be with you and to have you listen to me.

Yours,

Father
