【题目】 Every day of the week has its own color. Here’s what colors days show.

Monday is like a white paper for you to picture anything you want. On Monday almost everyone chooses to close their mouth to be silent and wait for something. So it’s white.

Tuesday is light gray. As you might have already guessed, Tuesday is more interesting than the first day of the week. It means that the white paper starts getting some colors on it.

Wednesday is red because you’re in the middle to start an exciting weekend. You should meet friends and have fun together on the day. So this day is with colorful activities.

Thursday is dark gray. Thursday shows a condition of mind that suffers from the difficult tasks and expects Friday.

Brown is a color full of surprises. Friday is brown because this day is full of things that are interesting and exciting.

Green should be a favorite color. The same goes about Saturday because it’s people’s favorite day of the week. You’re free today and will be free tomorrow too. Green color helps people relax.

【题目】Peer pressure is that strong feeling you might get to do the same things as other people of your age if you want them to like you. There is nobody that wants to be talked about or laughed at. But regretfully (遗憾地), we can’t always do things we like and have to forget who we truly are sometimes because it becomes more important for us to fit in with those around us.

Sometimes the pressure that we feel involves (参与) unimportant things, like being considered cool or dressing fashionably. We feel like doing things others do and saying things others say. Like starting to drink, because everyone does it, or maybe one of our friends drinks. But we do it anyway because we don’t want others to think we are scared. At that moment all that seems to be important to us is what they think of us, but later we regret the choice that we have made. Peer pressure often makes people take risks and put their life on the line.

So why do we give in to negative (消极的) peer pressure? Sometimes we just want to show that we are independent (独立的). Others may go along because they are curious to try something new that other people around them are doing. The idea of following the crowd (大众) influences our judgment (判断) or common sense. And most of the time we give in because we don’t want to be made fun of or talked about for not doing what others are doing. We also do it because we are afraid of being refused by others or because we aren’t sure of ourselves. Also, we do it because we don’t want to lose a friendship, or we want to be liked by everyone. Those who give in to peer pressure have low self-esteem (自尊), uncertainty about themselves, and don’t have a sense of self-worth.

Sometimes peer pressure can also be good. What we have to do is to learn to tell the difference between positive (积极的) and negative pressure. It is OK sometimes to follow the crowd but we have to recognize when it does us more harm than good.

1Which of the following is most likely to cause peer pressure?

A. Our relatives invite us to attend a party.

B. Our teachers gave us a lot of homework.

C. Our parents expect high scores from us.

D. Our classmates take mobile phones to our school.

2According to Paragraph 2, we sometimes do something wrong to show that we_________.

A. are scaredB. are independent

C. have great talentD. have great courage

3We give in to peer pressure to_________.

A. make others accept usB. attract others’ attention

C. prove our special valueD. show our personality

4Which idea may cause us to make a wrong judgment according to the passage?

A. Nobody is perfect.B. Nothing is impossible.

C. Everyone else is doing it.D. Just follow your own belief.

【题目】 Canada, Mexico and the United States won their joint bid(联合申办) to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the 68th FIFA Congress. This is the first World Cup to be hosted in three countries. The joint bid, called United 2026, won 134 out of the total 203 votes.

Football officials(官员) from the three countries cheered for the news. They said,“It is an important moment to show that we are all truly united through sport. And they are ready to welcome the world to North America and do everything they can for the largest FIFA World Cup in history.”

Morocco also wished to host the 2026 World Cup. But the north African nation only got 65 votes, with a score of 2.7 out of 5.0 when checking their ability to host the World Cup while the United 2026 got 4.0 as they have more support from their countries and are better able to cover the cost.

Among the four countries, the US hosted a World Cup in 1994 and Mexico held twice in 1970 and in 1986. The World Cup has never been held in Canada or Morocco. Unluckily, it was the fifth time that Morocco had failed to host a World Cup.
