In 1972,I returned to Miami Beach High School to give a speech to a dance class. After the 1        I asked the dance teacher if any of my English teachers was still there. He told me that Irene Roberts was in the class just down the hall.

I was no one 2        in Miss Roberts' class—just another sport fan who didn't do very well in Eng?lish. Yet I can't forget her respect for ideas and for her students. I realise now, many 3        later, that she is one of the best 4        I have ever had. I told the dance teacher that I'd like to say something to her,but I was afraid to 5        her right now. The dance teacher told me that Miss Roberts would be 6        to see me.

The dance teacher brought Miss Roberts into the hallway where stood this 32-year-old man she last 7        at the age of 18. "I'm Mark Medoff," 1 told her. "You were my 12th grade 8       teacher in 1958. "She looked at me carefully for some time,

9       didn't seem to remember who I was. At that moment I got so many things to say to her,but what I 10        said was: "Miss Roberts,I want you to know you were so important to me.”Hearing this. Miss Roberts began to weep and held me in her arms.
