题目内容

It's a terrible feeling. You feel sick, tired, and the room won’t stop spinning. Whafs wrong with you? Perhaps you are experiencing motion sickness. Motion sickness, also called travel sickness,is a common experience. Depending on how you travel,it can be named carsickness or seasickness. You may get the feeling when you try to read a book in a car or on a boat. Even astronauts train hard to fight motion sickness before going into space.

But why do we get motion sickness? And how can we prevent it?

We have four functions which sense movement. Our eyes see if we are moving. The ears contain special liquid to sense direction, while our skin knows what part of the body is touching the ground. Our muscles react to movement, like when you stop yourself swaying (摇摆) when the car sharply turns. When these four functions get puzzled, they start sending mixed messages to our brain, and we develop motion sickness.

Just think: when we’re in a moving car and reading a book. Our eyes see we are moving when we look out of the window, but still (静止的) when we read. The ears hear the car moving, yet the skin says we are sitting dowh. Muscles may only feel movement if the car turns. So our senses are all out of balance, and we start to feel ill.

But here's some good news to fight motion sickness. Choose an aisle (过道) seat on a plane, train and sit in the front of a car. Avoid standing. Always face the same way you’re traveling and leave your books at home.

Why don't some people get motion sickness? Scientists are still working on it,but they think genes may play a part.
