In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution. They join 36       . It’s a meaningful (有意义的)club, and people work together 37       our environment clean. Here are some things students often do.

No   garbage(废料,垃圾)lunches. How much do you throw away 38       lunch? Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in bags that can 39       again. Every week, they will choose the classes that make the least garbage and report them to the whole school.

No-car day. On a no-car day,40       comes to school by car. Neither the students nor the teachers!Cars give pollution to the air. 41       remember: walk, jump, ride or run. Use your legs! It’s lots of fun.

42       the water!Do you know that some toilets could 43       twenty to forty cubic meters of water an hour? In a year,to your 44        ,that would fill a small river! In environment clubs, students repair those broken toilets 45

We love our environment. Let’s work together and make it clean.

When Marie Curie was a little girl, she worked to get money to pay for her lessons. She became the most famous woman scientist of her time. 1

Marie was born in 1867. She lived in Poland (波兰).Her father,Mr. Sklodovska was a teacher. Everyone soon knew that Marie was very clever. When she was young, she loved to spend hours reading books. But her body was weak ; so her mother often asked her to leave her lessons and play out in the sun. 2       From then on,she worked very hard at her lessons, and she won top honours at her school.

3       But their father did not have enough money to send them there. Then Marie thought of a plan: She would teach at home and send her money to Bronya. After her sister finished studying in Pairs, she could get work and send Marie the money to study there.

With tears in their eyes, the girls said goodbye to each other, and Marie worked very hard for six years to pay for her sister’s studies. 4

Again Marie worked. She studied in a small room without heat(暖气)or light. She lived on bread and tea most of the time, but all she ever thought of was her science. 5       In Paris she met and married Pierre Cure,a young and famous scientist. The Curies were given the Nobel Prize for their great discovery. The great woman died in 1934.
