     On December 23rd, 2008, Niu Niu held a piano concert at the National Grand Theatre (国家大剧院). He is
a talented boy who plays the piano very well. As an eleven-year-old boy, he became the ① pianist to perform

     Niu Niu was born into a musical family in Xiamen.③ His father Zhang was a piano teacher. Niu Niu grew

     "I gave Niu Niu some sheet music (活页乐谱) when he first played the piano. To my surprise, he played
nearly 80 percent correctly," said the father. He used to think that 3 years old is too young to learn playing the
piano, but Niu Niu changed his mind. He continued to allow Niu Niu to watch his teaching and gave him more
sheet music to play.

     On July 23rd, 1993, Wang Jiapeng lost his legs when his plane crashed. Wang was only 12 years old.
     "I felt I was the unluckiest person in the world," says Wang."When I saw students with their schoolbags
on their backs, the sound of my wheelchair made me sick."
     Wang's mother took him to a special hospital in Beijing. She looked after him in the daytime and worked
at night to make money. But after two years, Wang was still not able to leave the hospital. Wang's mother
became too tired to go on and one day she herself became a hospital patient!
     One morning she woke up and saw her son holding breakfast for her. Wang's trip to the food shop was
his first time outside the hospital in two years. The five-minute walk took him thirty minutes. But he was
finally able to make an important decision."I didn't care how other people looked at me," he says."I had to
learn to do things myself."
     For the next few years, Wang taught himself all his middle school subjects in the hospital and, five years
after the accident, he won a chance to study in a college in Norway. Wang learned to drive, go rock climbing
and ski. He even won two gold medals for skiing in an international skiing competition.
     "You are what you think you are," says Wang. "If you think you're disabled, you are. If you don't think so,
you aren't."

     On a very hot day, it is hard to know what to do to feel good. If you run around, you may feel sick in

     The food you eat also makes a difference in how you feel in the heat. Cold foods such as ice cream and
drinks with some ice can cool down your bodies. Fruits and vegetables are also helpful to stay cool in hot
weather. So plan a healthy menu for a hot day---one that doesn't need any cooking.

counts for young men,” she added.
    She ended her speech by singing The Song of Rose. She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and
live then out in our daily lives.
    At the year’s end, Rose finished the college education she had begun all those years ago. One week
after graduation Rose did peacefully in her sleep.
