There are many kinds of wild cats in Africa, such as the lion, the cheetah(猎豹) and the leopard(豹). African cats are beautiful animals but they are not safe. The biggest danger to African cats is losing their living places. Roads and farms leave less space for wildlife. The cheetah used to be seen around Africa. Today, the cat can only be found in certain places of Africa. They have lost most of their living places. Lions once lived all over Africa as well. But now their population is becoming smaller and smaller. Illegal hunting(非法捕猎) is also a problem to the wild big cats in some places.

There are protected areas in many parts of Africa. But outside those places, wild African cats may be killed. They may be killed for their beautiful skins. They may be killed for use in traditional medicines. They may be killed by people who hunt for sport, or fun.

Some organizations and groups, like the Cat Survival Trust(CST) and African Wildlife Foundation(AWF), are working to protect African cats. They are trying their best to make sure these cats can live in peace.

The job of protecting African cats is really difficult, but one small step could lead to bigger steps.
