Seven out of ten people in Britain get married at some time in their lives, and there are two ways to get married. You can have a religious wedding ceremony (宗教式婚礼) (Christian, Muslim, Hindu, etc.) in a place that is registered for marriages, or a registrar (登记员) can marry you in a civil ceremony (法律形式) without any religious content.
It is quite easy to arrange (安排) a civil ceremony. You can get a special license and get married in about three days. The bride and groom are usually over eighteen, but people can marry at sixteen with their parents' permission (允许). You need two witnesses at the ceremony who are over eighteen and who speak and understand English. There are no rules about clothes, so the bride and groom can wear anything. They can also choose their own music-even pop music. Some people like to read or listen to poetry, but most people only use the legal words of the ceremony. Whatever sort of ceremony people have, there is usually a reception afterwards. This is a party, often with a meal, for family and friends.
