Smoking Ban in Hong Kong Are you going to Hong Kong Disneyland with your family? If your father smokes,you must ask him to be careful,because on January 1st,2007,Hong Kong began to ban (禁止) smoking in most public places,such as restaurants,workplaces,schools,public parks,museums (博物馆) and so on. That's to say,if someone smokes in those places,he is breaking the law. And then he will have to pay up to HK$5 000.
The ban is to stop passive (被动的) smoking. What is passive smoking? When people smoke in a restaurant or on the bus,others have to breathe (呼吸) the smoke,too. They don't want to breathe but they have no choice (选择) . This is passive smoking. It is very bad for people's health.
Hong Kong is not the first to have a smoking ban. On January 1st,2006,Singapore (新加坡) began to ban smoking in most public places.
