What is the most important thing to a mountaineer? To Jamie Andrew, it′s everything but his limbs(四肢).

Andrew, from Edinburgh, had his limbs cut off after a snow storm at the top of a mountain in the Alps for five days, 15 years ago. He learned how to walk again within a year with the use of prosthetics(假肢) and has taken part in marathons(马拉松) to raise money for charity. But his greatest challenge is mountaineering.

Last year the man returned to his beloved activity, he wanted to stand on the top of the Matterhorn, a dangerous peak in the Alps. At least 500 people have lost their lives there.

Andrew tried to climb in August 2013. They started very early in the morning so that they would have time to come bake before nightfall. When they were about 200 meters from the top, the group was forced(被迫) to turn back because of the bad weather.

“It′s very hard to let go of a dream or a goal,” says Andrew. “But safety is the most important. Getting as far as we did was a great success in itself, and I feel very proud of that.” He is making plans for a second try.

“Hopefully I have done my part to push back the boundaries(限制) of what disabled people can get,” he says.
