As the People’s Republic of China celebrated the 60th birthday, the success of the language was one of the mainly things to do be proud of. China is a country of many region (地区) and many dialects (方言). It was difficult for people to communicate with each other. Mandarin (Putonghua), the language commonly spoken around Beijing, was encouraged as national language.
