Town Lake Animal Center is the largest animal shelter in Central Texas, providing shelter for more than 23,000 animals each year and animal control services for all of Austin and Travis County. In the shelter, no animal will be turned away.(拒绝)

Animal Cruelty(虐待) Prevention Classes

Purpose: To teach people how to recognize(辨认) and report animal cruelty.

Who: All citizens are encouraged to take this class.

Cause: Usually animal cruelty is relation to (涉及到) family cruelty.People who hurt animals often move on to hurt human beings.If youre able to recognize and report animal cruelty,you can help prevent cruelty from spreading throughout your area.

Tony Wheeler was born to travel. His father worked for an airline. For the first 16 years of his life,Wheeler and his family lived in many different countries.

In the early 1970s,Wheeler met a young woman named Maureen. They soon married. Before getting jobs Tony and Maureen wanted to travel. They took a year-long trip from London,through Asia,to Australia. On the trip,they visited places like India Iran and Afghanistan.

When Tony and Maureen arrived in Australia,people asked many questions about their trip. To answer these questionsWheeler wrote a guidebook called Across Asia on the Cheap . The book told people about different countries' weathercustoms(风俗),and places to see. But unlike travel guides in the 1970sWheeler’s book also talked about places most tourists did not go. He also wrote about unusual things to see and do. The book was very popular

Wheeler and Maureen started a company called Lonely Planet. They continued travelling. They wrote guidebooks for each place they visited. Today,400 people work for Lonely Planet. Lemuel Gulliver enjoyed travelling. He was a ship’s doctor. On May 4, 1699, they were going to the Far East in the ship called the Antelope. One night, his ship crashed against the rocks, Gulliver was washed to the land. He found himself a prisoner(囚犯)of tiny people. They were less than 6 inches tall and lived in the island country of Lilliput. After he promised to behave well, they set him free and he could visit the city. He wanted to make the people of Blefuscu his slaves(奴隶), so he asked Gulliver to bring some more ships. Gulliver did not like this plan. The king got angry. Some bad men in Lilliput wanted to kill Gulliver. Gulliver had to run away from Lilliput to Blefuscu.

He was welcomed by the king of Blefuscu. They soon became good friends. Three days after that , he asked king to send him twenty of his largest ships and two thousand men to pull the boat to the shore. In this boat, he set sail for England.

On the third day he saw a big ship to the southeast. He called out to the ship. The ship was moving very slowly. They raised a flag .His heart was full of happiness when he saw the English flag .
