How to celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day

The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970. The holiday has been celebrated on this day every year ever since then.

In 2014, NASA(美国国家航空和宇航局)took an active part in Earth Day. Their Global Selfie event asked people to take a photo of themselves outside, and send it to NASA. They then put these pictures on a map of the world for all to see to commemorate their participation (纪念他们的参与)in this important day.

我们可以做许多小事来保护地球the following are some easy ideas!

Ride your bike

if you live close enough to your school, ride a bike to and from classes. Not only is it good for your body, it’s also good for the environment! And if you aren’t nearby or don’t have a bike, take public transportation.

Use your own water bottle

Just throwing your plastic water bottles into the recycling bin doesn’t mean they are not hurting the environment. Besides the fact that it takes a lot of oil to make all of those bottles each year, there are still over two million tons of water bottles that have ended up in U.S. Landfills(垃圾填埋场).Buy a reusable bottle, so you’ll be getting fresh water every time.

Get produce from a local farmer’s market

Besides supporting area businesses, you’ll also be helping the earth by buying your fruits and vegetables from local farmer’ s market. That’s because food in the supermarkets travels about l,500 miles to get to you, and all that shipping can cause pollution. When you buy locally, it’s transported in shorter distances(距离).

【题目】 The sudden death of Sir Charles Baskerville made everybody sad as he was a nice and respected man and had made many friends in Dartmoor during the two years he was at Baskerville Hall.

Mr Barrymore, the butler(男管家), said that Sir Charles had been sad and stressed these days. He told Barrymore that he was planning to return to London the next day. Then, he went for his usual evening walk. He did not return, and at midnight, Barrymore went to look for him. He followed Sir Charles’s footprints along the path until he found his master’s body lying near the end of it.

A man called Murphy was on the moor at the time and said that he heard shouting, but he was drunk at the time and no one would believe what he said.

The report said that Sir Charles had a weak heart and died of a heart attack. And this made it clear that the stories of a huge hound should not be believed.

“Do you know anything more than what is in the newspapers?” said Holmes when Dr. Mortimer had finished.

“Yes indeed. Sir Charles would never go out onto the moor at night because he was in fear of being attacked. He asked me several times whether I had heard the hound howling at night, but I never had. I was there within an hour when he died. I went over to see his body. He lay face down on the ground with his arms out and his fingers dug into the ground. At the inquest, Barrymore said that he saw nothing else, but I did. I saw footprints, Mr Holmes.”

“Footprints?” said Holmes, leaning forward. “A man’s or a woman’s?”

Mortimer looked at us for a moment before replying. “Mr.Holmes, they were the footprints of a huge hound!”

International Day for Protecting Consumers’ Rights

Began:1983

Date: March 15 each year

The International Day for Protecting Consumers’ Rights aims to pay special attention to the consumers and remind consumers of their rights(权利).

The consumers’ rights are legal(合法的) and protected by laws. A consumer shall have the right to get information relating to consumption(消费) and the protection of the rights and interests of consumers. Protection for Consumers:

*Every year, the “3.15 ” evening party hosted by CCTV unveils(揭幕) some illegal companies and fake products, in order to raise the consumers’ awareness to protect their own rights.

*If consumers find the shops are cheating, they can call 12315 to protect their rights.

Several strong measures should be adopted to fight against fake and unqualified products. On the one hand ,those who make bad products must be seriously punished by the laws. On the other hand, consumers should learn to know differences between true and false.
