A cloth had been tied around her neck and another across her mouth so that she could not speak. We untied her. She was weak and exhausted but managed to say, "Has he escaped? Is he safe?"
"He cannot escape us, madam."
"I do not mean my husband. Is Sir Henry safe?"
We assured her that he was and told her that the hound was dead. She began to cry. "I have been a fool! I knew that he was trying to kill Sir Henry with the dog, and I should have stopped him, but I couldn't." "Tell us where he is, Madam," said Holmes.
"There is only one place. It is an old tin mine in the middle of Grimpen Mire, where he kept his hound." Questions:
