Woman: Mr. Wang, Jack came to talk to me, and I understand you have
an attitude problem, and that you do things without following directions.
Man: Oh, look, I
really want to do a good job because I really enjoy my work here, but my
supervisor, Jack what a pain! He bosses me around all the time. He is always
doing things his own way, and never asks for my opinion. I say he is the one
with the attitude problem.
Woman: Then let's talk about the problem of following directions,
OK?
Man: Yes.
Woman: Okay, now I see where the attitude problem comes from.
Sometimes, employees may not know the inner workings of a company, so you
should do things according to his directions. Jack is your supervisor, and,
regardless of how you feel about it, our company should have a can-do attitude.
Man: Yes.
Woman: Now, you should think about the philosophy of this company.
You need to follow it, if you agree with it. Do you understand?
Man: Uh-hah.
Woman: If you don't comply with requests one more time, we may have
to relieve you of your duties here, but we don't want to do that. Now you can
go back to work. I don't want to see you here again for this kind of matter.

It's shrimp. The fruit is pineapple. How do you like the sweet and sour fish?

latest news is on our tennis racket?
Man: We've made some improvements to
the it, so it's easier to hold on to. We've also designed a whole new look for

high quality will please them.
Man: Maybe we can
get some one famous to advertise them !

Man: Hello, Mary.
I've made up my mind to go to the U.S. for my graduate studies.
Woman: Really? How nice! Have you applied to any school?
Man: Not yet. I
was going to ask you. Which school is good in Mechanical Engineering?
Woman:
Oh, quite a few. MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, CMU, Cornell. I think you should
apply for a few good schools and also a few average schools. Your chance of
getting in would be greater.
Man: Right. I plan to apply for three
top schools, three average schools, and a couple of not so good ones. What is
the pros and cons of applying to different schools?
Woman:
Good schools have more assistantships. If you can get in, the chance of getting
financial aid is greater. However, the competition is hot. The average schools
are easier to get in, but they may not have many assistantships.
Man: I do need
some financial aid. I am not rich, and my folks aren't either.
Woman:
Then try the good ones. You may want to apply for five good schools instead of
three. Have you taken TOEFL and GRE?
Man: Not yet. I
will talk to you tomorrow about it. Thanks a lot.
Woman: You are welcome. Talk to me anytime.
Man: Sure. Bye!
See you tomorrow!

听第五段独白,回答第13-15题。
The family is a
central institution of modern British society, at least in the sense that
almost everybody has had experience of living in a family at some time in their
lives. There are many different family patterns in modern Britain.
One pattern that was
common in the 1950s and covers about one in eight families today is where the
parents and married children live close together but in separate houses. The
family tie remains strong and mothers and daughters are likely to meet each other
most days to talk or help each other when needed. This pattern occurs more
often in settled communities rather than in mobile ones, in the north of England rather
than in the south, and in working-class rather than middle-class families.
Another pattern is
where parents and married children live further apart (usually about an hour's
car drive from each other). They may meet only once or twice a month but keep
in touch by telephone and help each other when necessary. This pattern is
growing and covers about half of the population. It is found especially in
middle-class families in the south-east of England.
13.
How many family patterns are mentioned in the passage?
A. 1
B. 2 C. 3
14.
Nowadays ______ live close together.
A. most parents and married
children
B. half of the parents and married
children
C. about
12% of the parents and married children
15.

from each other.

families C.
