期末听力

听力材料:

(Text 1)

W:Does the play start at 6:00 or 6:15?

M:Neither. It starts at 6:30 and ends at 8:00.

(Text 2)

M:There is an exhibition about planes and satellites.

W:Really? I’d like to see that, too.

(Text 3)

W:Is Tom back, Uncle Jim?

M:No, not yet. Do you know why, Lucy?

W:I’m afraid he broke the rule. That’s what Jack told me just now.

(Text 4)

M:Hello, Betty. Do you think women are better doctors than men?

W:Sorry, I’m not sure of that. But I’m sure that women are better teachers than men.

(Text 5)

M:Beautiful day, isn’t it?

W:Yes, you are lucky. In our country we haven’t such a day.

M:It’s a pity. By the way, which part do you come from?

W:Scotland, what about you?

(Text 6) M:What did I do wrong? Did I take a wrong turn?

W:I’m not sure. Maybe you turned left when you should have turned right.

M:Well, now the problem is how to get back onto the main highway?

W:Why don’t you stop and ask a policeman?

(Text 7)

M:Hi, Jane. It’s nice to see you again. I heard that you went to the US during the vacation.

W:Yes. I went to New York to attend a summer course in English.

M:Wow. You were lucky. How long did you stay there?

W:About 50 days. I went there on July 5th and came back on August 25th.

M:How about the course?

W:The course was very good. The teachers were nice. They taught us to listen, speak, read and write in English, but it was mostly speaking. One interesting thing I found was that the American classes are different from our classes here because they are very free. You can sit anywhere you like in the classroom. You can ask the teacher questions at any time during the class, and you are welcome to share your ideas with the class. I really liked this kind of class.

M:How interesting! Maybe our teacher should try that.

(Text 8)

M:I want to buy a farm. I think I’d like to grow wheat. Is the ground here good for that?

W:No, I don’t think it’s good for farming.

M:Why do you know so well? W:I own a farm here, but farming is very hard work.

M:But modern farm equipment can make farming easier.

W:Yes, but you should cut down trees, clear a lot of land and make the soil rich.

M:I don’t mind hard work. I just want to get away from my factory.

W:You can have my farm at a low price, $200, if you want it.

M:All right. You’re giving me the farm, aren’t you?

(Text 9)

It was time to go home. A doctor was going to call on one of his patients. There was ice on the road and the doctor’s car hit a tree and turned over three times. To his surprise, he was not hurt. He got out of the car and walked to the nearest house. He wanted to telephone the garage for help. The door was opened by one of his patients.

“Oh, doctor,” she said. “ I have only just telephoned you. You must have a very fast car. You got here very quickly indeed. There has been a very bad accident on the road outside. I saw it through the window. I’m sure the driver will need your help.”

(Text 10)

Beethoven, a famous musician in the world, was born in Germany in 1770. In his childhood Beethoven didn’t have a happy life. His father was a singer. When he was only four, his father began to make him practise hour after hour on different musical instruments.

Beethoven loved music, and he was able to go around giving concerts when he was only a boy of eleven. At the age of seventeen, he won high praise from Mozart, the great musician at that time.

Beethoven was often poor and ill during his life. After one illness, he suddenly found himself deaf. At that time he was only thirty-one. It was a blow to him indeed, but he still went on working and writing music pieces. To people’s surprise, some of his best pieces were written after he lost his hearing.

In 1827 leaving more than 300 pieces, the great musician died, but his name is still remembered to this day.
