【题目】China is going green. In order to reduce air pollution and oil-shortages, car makers have announced their plans to develop hybrid(混合燃料)cars for the Chinese market.Toyota’s hybrid car Prius will be ready to drive in China this week.Let’s have a look at the new car.

Any vehicle is a hybrid car when it combines two or more sources of power.Hybrid cars have special engines, which are smaller than traditional gasoline engine. They run at 99 percent of their power when the car is going at a steady speed A specially designed battery motor provides extra power for running up hills or when extra speed-up is needed

Step into a Prius, and turn on the engine. The first thing you notice is how much quieter it is than a traditional car.At this point, the car’s gasoline engine is at rest. The electric motor will provide power until the car reaches about 24 kilometers per hour.If you stay at a low speed, you are effectively driving an electric car, with no gasoline being used, and no waste gas gives off.

The computer makes the decision about when to use a gas engine, when to go electric, and when to use a combination of the two.If you go over 24 kilometers per hour, when you step on the gas, you are actually telling the computer how fast you want to go.

The electronic motor recharges automatically using a set of batteries. When driving at a high speed, the gasoline engine not only powers the car, but also charges the batteries.

Any time you use the brake, the electric motor will work like a generator(发电机)and produce electricity to recharge the batteries. As a result, the car’s batteries will last for around 200,000 miles.

【3】We can know from the report that ___________.

A. the batteries can be recharged at any time you want

B. using the brake suggests that the gasoline engine should work

C. the gasoline engine charges the batteries as well as powering the car

D. the car’s batteries will last for around 200,000 miles without being recharged

【4】The author writes this passage mainly to ___________.

A. announce plans to develop hybrid cars for the Chinese market

I just hope that our brains won’t crash(死机). Are you wo rking on your typing skills to make you a more efficient worker? That may be all for nothing as Intel believes that we’ll be able to control our computers with our brains by 2020.
Intel and its resear ch partners are study ing how brain acts when it thinks. For example, scientists have found that people’s brains react in a similar manner when asked to think of a bear.
Through sensors(感应器)that can find this sort of brain activity, Intel thinks that it will be able to read and translate this into an input system thanks to a c hip in the brain.
“We’re trying to prove you can do interesting things with brain wav es. ”Intel research scientist Dean Pomerleau told Computerworld. “Eventually people may be willing to be, more devoted to brain implants(植入物). Imagine being able to surf the Web with the Power of your thoughts. ”
Even if thin king about a bear isn’t enough to show that you want to copy and paste something. Intel still thinks that there’s a future in using your brain instead of the keyboard.
“If we can get to the point where you can accurately find specific words, you could mentally type, ”he added. “You could compose characters or words by thinking about letters flashing on the screen or typing whole words rather than their individual characters. ”
While this may all sound impractical for present time, Intel thinks that it’s possible and something we’ll all want.
“I think human beings are unusually adaptive(适应的), ”said Andrew Chien, vice pre sident of research and director of future technologies research at Intel Labs. “If you told people 20 years ago that they would be carrying computers all the time, they would have said, ‘I don’t want that. I don’t need that. ’Now you can’t get them to stop carrying device s. There are a lot of things that have to be done first but I think implanting chips into human brains is well within the scope of possibility. ”
Make good use of your favorite mouse and keyboard set-up before they’re old-fashioned.

【题目】Martha Payne is 9 years old. She lives in a small community in Scotland. Martha is interested in the food at her school. She is interested in how good it tastes, and how healthy it is, and whether it contains any hairs. A few months ago, she started to write a blog about her school dinners. She photographed her school dinners, and then posted the pictures on her blog and told us what she thought about the food. Most days, she thought the food was OK, and on some days she thought it was really good.

Children in other schools, and other countries, started to read Martha's blog. Some of them left comments on Martha's school dinners. And some sent Martha pictures of their own school dinners, and Martha published these on her blog. Then Martha started to use her blog to raise money for a charity called Mary's Meals, which provides school meals for children in poor communities in developing countries.

And at this point, the officials who run the education system in the part of Scotland where Martha lives became aware of her blog. They didn't want publicity for the food in their schools. Perhaps they were afraid that people would start to criticize (批评) their school dinners and say that they were unhealthy. They said that Martha's blog had to stop.

【题目】When I was a little kid, one of my favorite things to do was going to the zoo. I have recently heard that there are debates as to whether elephants should live in zoos or should they wander around free. My position is that elephants should live in zoos for people to see.

Many experts say that elephants have a good life living in zoos. There are 78 zoos that exhibit elephants. Most zoos are taking the necessary steps to make living conditions better for the elephants. They are doing things such as replacing hard floors with sand or dirt. This makes it easier for them to wander around. Zoos are also expanding their elephant house to give the large animals more room to go around.

Zoos also protect endangered species. According to the World Wildlife Fund, in 2014 the total population of African elephants was around 700,000, and the Asian elephant population was around 32,000. The Asian elephants are on a path to dying out. Without zoos, they all are likely to disappear within our lifetime. The National Zoo plans to spend millions of dollars on a new Asian elephant habitat. That way, they can start their own group if the Asian elephants are gone.

There are people who want zoos to empty all of their elephant displays. If they decide to do so, it would take the chance to see elephants up close away from people. That could change the public’s favorable opinion of elephants. National Zoo director John Berry says that allowing visitors to experience the elephants up close encourages people to care about endangered species. During one of my visits to the zoo, it was a very hot day. I was sweating a lot. Big Ben, the largest elephant on display, walked up to me and gently squirted() my face with water from his trunk. Everyone was amazed at what he did. That was a very nice thing for Big Ben to do. I am sure that elephants are the nicest animals on earth. I wish all zoos would keep their elephant displays open to the public. I want all my friends to be able to experience what I did with Big Ben.

I feel zoos should follow all the necessary steps to keep elephants in zoos. I would raise money at my school if I thought it would help to keep elephants in zoos.

1According to the passage, what do we know about the Asian elephants?

A. They are living in a new habitat.

B. They are at the risk of disappearing.

C. They prefer wandering on hard floors.

D. They often squirt people’s face with water.

2The underlined word “displays” in Paragraph 4 means ___________.

A. products B. trades

C. habitats D. exhibitions

3What is the author’s attitude towards keeping elephants in the zoos?

A. Objective. B. Disapproving.

C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.

4Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the passage?

CP: Central Point P: Point SP: Sub-point C: Conclusion

A. B.

C. D.
