Ignore the bully and walk away. It’s definitely not a coward's response—sometimes it can be harder than losing your temper. Walk tall and hold your head high. 2

Hold the anger. Who doesn't get really upset with a bully? 3】 Bullies want to know they have control over your emotions. Work out your anger in other ways, such as through exercise or writing it down.

4】 However you choose to deal with a bully, don't use physical force. Not only are you showing your anger, you can never be sure what the bully will do in response. You are more likely to be hurt and get into trouble if you use violence against a bully. You can stand up for yourself in other ways, such as gaining control of the situation by walking away.

【题目】My cell phone rang while I was working on my computer. I looked at the phone and saw it was my 17-year-old son, Tom. I quickly picked it up.“Mom,I got a 71 on the test.I did it.”With those few words,I could feel my heart start to pound.

Living in New York State. Students cannot graduate from high school unless they pass at least five exams: one in English, one in science, two in history and one in math. For most students, who work hard, attend class, and do their homework like my son, it isn't that hard. But for Tom, who is dyslexic(朗读困难), it is such a real challenge that some teachers have feared he would never be able to even attempt, never mind achieve.

We were honest with him about his trouble, letting him know that there was nothing to be ashamed of. Some people learn differently. If he was willing to work,we would help him find a way to do as much as he could in his academic career. All that was standing in his way was this math test. He had taken it three times and did better each time, but he continued to fail. He was starting to get a bit tired of me saying this was a marathon not a sprint(冲刺). My heart broke each time we would get the failing results.

“Mom,thanks. I love you. Thanks for believing I could do this.”

For one of the few times in my life, I really had nothing left to say. For that one brief moment I knew, really, really, knew that everything we did to help our son achieve what he wanted was worth it.

【题目】What personal qualities are desirable in a teacher?I think the following would be generally accepted.

Firstly, the teacher's personality should be lively and attractive. This does not rule out people who are plainlooking,or even ugly, because many such people have great personal charm. 1.

Secondly,it is not merely desirable but essential for a teacher to have a capacity for sympathy,a capacity to understand the minds and feelings of children. 2—not of what is wrong, but of the weaknesses and immaturity of children, which cause them to make mistakes.

Thirdly,I hold it essential for a teacher to be both intellectually and morally honest. This means that he will be aware of his intellectual strengths and limitations, and will have thought about and decided upon the moral principles by which his life shall be guided. 3. That is part of the technique of teaching, which demands that every now and then a teacher should be able to put on an act—to enliven(使生动)a lesson, correct a fault,or award praise.

A teacher must be capable of infinite patience. 4,for we are none of us born like that.

Finally,I think a teacher should have the kind of mind which always wants to go on learning. 5;there is always something more to learn about. There are three principal objects of study:the subjects which the teacher is teaching;the methods by which the subjects can best be taught to the particular pupils in the classes he is teaching;most importantly, the children, young people,or adults to whom the subjects are to be taught.

A.This,I may say,is largely a matter of selfdiscipline and selftraining

B.Closely related to this is the capacity to be tolerant

C. Teaching is a job at which one will never be perfect

D.Children, especially young children, live in a world that is rather larger than life

E.There is no contradiction (自相矛盾)in my going on to say that a teacher should be a bit of an actor

F.But it does rule out such types as the overexcitable, sad, cold, and frustrated

G.There are two fundamental principles of British education today
