Fancy some fresh fruit and vegetables? At Parkside Farm we grow a wide variety of delicious summer fruits and high-quality vegetables for you to come and pick your own. Why not pay us a visit?

About us

Our family has been farming at Parkside Farm since 1938. Although we no longer keep fields of wheat and other crops. We started growing strawberries for Pick Your Own back in 1979. Since then, we have made the Pick Your Own area larger and we now grow about 20 different crops.

Opening times

The season starts in late June, but opening hours are variable the first week. Please ring our message line to check. From July onwards, we are open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9 am to 5:30 pm (last entry 5 pm). Opening hours are variable on Sundays. Mondays CLOSED.

Some crops may be in limited supply at certain times, so always ring the message line for daily updates before setting out.

There is a minimum charge of £3 for each adult or child who enters the Pick Your Own area. This means that every person has to spend at least £3 on Pick-Your-Own fruits or they will charged this amount when they leave.

It has been showed that teachers in UK schools are trying the use of body cameras in class to record bad pupil's behavior.

At least two schools in England have introduced the equipment for constant recording with the agreement of local education authorities. The cameras, worn on teachers’ clothing, are set to film all the time but only save encrypted footage(加密镜头)when the record button is pressed, the Times reported.

Teachers are advised to turn on the cameras during incidents in the classroom to deal with “constant low-level interruption”, but must give notice before doing so.

The technology is already used by police and some hospital staff as well as crossing-patrol officers. Of the people who said they were in favor, about 31.6 percent said they were motivated by teacher and student safety. Among those who were not willing to use the technology, reasons included concerns about their own privacy and that of the children, as well as feeling spied on, or the possibility of misuse by management.

Around two-thirds of the teachers, more than 600 in total, said they feel safer in the classroom if they knew there was a camera recording everything, while 10.9 percent said they could foresee a time when bodycams are compulsory.

Mary Bousted, general secretary at the Association of Teachers and Lectures(ATL), said all schools should be safe places for pupils and staff.

Most children are now working longer hours than their parents with some saving for over 46 hours a week, according to a new survey.

The research shows that parents are creating crazy schedules for their children with after school activities in addition to school tasks. This means children are actually working harder than the average parents who only work for 37.5 hours a week.

The average child already completes 30 hours and 50 minutes a week at school from Monday to Friday, as well as seven hours and 51 minutes of clubs and homework. Actively reading with parents daily takes a further five hours and 49 minutes a week. The Center Parcs study of 2,000 parents also found the average child also helps with housework for up to an hour and 37 minutes each week.

Colin Whaley, marketing director from Center Pares, said, “We made this report to further understand family life and what challenges parents and children are facing and overcoming, so we can always make sure we’re offering what they need. What has undoubtedly come out of this is the need for families—parents and children alike—to take time out to relax.”

In response to the findings, Center Parcs let child psychologist(心理学家)Dr Sam Wass to develop a Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for free time which needs three hours and 51 minutes every day. The RDA provides a variety of free-time activities, which will allow children to use their imagination and develop creative thinking. The RDA really creates the best environment to relax and the best short break possible for children.

Some people asked me how I could suggest the expenses of billions of dollars for a voyage to Mars, at a time when many children on this Earth are starving to death.
