11.Electronic book publishing has many of the same risks and opportunities as electronic music publishing.By delivering text direct to the user's computer screen,the e-book could cut down costs,and allow creators to deal directly with their audience,bypassing (绕过) traditional publishers and readers.But it also raises the possibility of mass piracy (盗版).Phil Rance,founder and managing director of Online Originals,a London-based e-book publisher,sums it up."No one wants Napster (在线音乐服务) to happen to books."
Indeed,the most popular MP3have put the frighteners on (威胁) an industry hat generally operates some way behind the"bleeding edge".The Mata Group,a leading US-based market researcher,says publishers are far too concerned about protecting their rights,"We believe all the recent legal control over Napster is like putting a finger in a river that is already overflowing.Publishers need to deal with reality and come up with new ways to develop wide electrnic distribution (分布),asking the question:‘How can we use the certainty of wide distribution to our advantage?'"
At the moment,most publishers would like to limit the use of e-books to the person who bought them,or to the computer used to download them.If that can be done e-books become just an extra income stream in a publishing industry that would continue to operate the way it does today,according to Terry Robinson,business manager for Adobe's e-paper group."If you've cracked digital rights aspect,you've cracked the market,"he says.
Robert Nichols,Books Director at BOL agrees,"Rights management is absolutely important.Publishers just say that‘until copyright is secure,we're not going to talk'."

解答 29-31 DBA
29.D  推理判断题.纵观全文和根据第一段中"Electronic book publishing has many of the same risks and opportunities as electronic music publishing"可知,电子书和电子音乐一样有危险和机会,即电子书面临巨大的挑战.故选D.
30.B  细节理解题.根据第一段"By delivering text direct to the reader's computer screen,the e-book could cut down costs,and allow creators to deal directly with their audience,by passing(绕开)traditional publishers and traders"可知,直接向使用者的电脑发送文本,电子书能够大量缩减费用并允许与创作者直接与观众见面,绕过了传统的出版商和读者.再根据"Electronic book publishing has many of the same risks and opportunities as electronic music publishingBut it also raises the possibility of mass piracy(盗版)"可知,现在的电子书和电子音乐一样价格会大幅度降低,故选B.
31.A   细节理解题.根据最后一段中"Publishers just say thatuntil copyright is secure,we are not going to talk'"可知,出版社说直到版权是安全的,我们才会说,由此可知,出版商最关心的是版权,故选A.

19.Students and Technology in the Classroom
I love my Black berry-it's my little connection to the large world that can go anywhere with me.I also love my laptop computer,as it holds all of my writing and thoughts.Despite this love of technology,I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices(设备) and truly communicate with others.
On occasion,I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas.Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom,I have a rule-no laptops,iPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy.
Most students assume(假设) that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There's a bit of truth to that. Some students assume that I am anti-technology.There's no truth in that all.I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations and truly engage complex ideas.Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas.I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas.I want them to push each other to think differently and to make connections between the course material and the class discussion.
I've been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create.Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.
I'm not saying that I won't ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change,I'm sticking to my plan.A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.

6.When a rather dirty,poorly dressed person kneels at your feet and puts out his hands to beg for a few coins,do you hurry on,not knowing what to do,or do you feel sad and hurriedly hand over some money?What should our attitude to beggars be?There can be no doubt that the world is full of terribly sad stories.It must be terrible to have no idea where our next meal is going to come from.It seems cruel not to give some money to beggars.
Certainly,most of the world's great religions order us to be open-hearted and share what we have with those less fortunate than ourselves.But as the world changed?Maybe what was morally right in the old days,when one knew exactly who in the village had suffered misfortune and needed help,is no longer the best idea.Quite a few people will not give to beggars.Let us look at their arguments.
First,some believe that many city beggars dress up on purpose to look pitiable and actually make a good living from begging.Giving to beggars only encourages this sort of evil (恶行).Secondly,there is the worry that the money'you give will be spent on beer,wine or drugs.Thirdly,there is the opinion that there is no real excuse for begging.One might be poor,but that is no reason for losing one's sense of pride and self-dependence.
Related to this is the opinion that the problem should be dealt with by the government rather than ordinary people.Some people think beggars should go to the local government department and receive help.
It is hard to come to any final conclusion; there are various cases and we must deal with them differently.A few coins can save a life in some situations,and even if the money is wasted,that does not take away the moral goodness of the giver.

21.What is mainly discussed in the passage?D
A.Moral deeds of people.
B.Religious activities of the church.
C.Moral goodness of the giver.
D.Arguments on giving to beggars.
22.What can we infer from the sentence"But has the world changed?"in the second paragraph?B
A.People no longer know who suffers misfortune in the village.
B.Some people will not do what was morally right in the past.
C.We don't meet with those who need help any more.
D.Now it is the government's duty to help the beggars.
23.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?B
A.Some people dress up to pretend to be beggars.
B.Some beggars want money to help their children go to school.
C.Some beggars use the money to buy drugs.
D.Some beggars have no excuse for begging.
24.In the last paragraph,the writer thinks that it is hard to come to any final conclusion,becauseA.
A.the cases can be so different
B.there are so many beggars
C.there is so much money wasted
D.there are so many different arguments.
16.Good health is the most valuable thing a person can have but one cannot take good health for granted.It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in order to be healthy.There are three things that a person can do to help stay healthy,eating right food,getting enough sleep,and exercising regularly.
Proper nutrition(营养) is important for good health.Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper kind"fuel".Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and fat.Eat plenty of foods high in protein(蛋白质),like meat,fish,eggs and nuts.Vegetables and fruits are very important because they provide necessary vitamins and minerals.However,don't overeat.It is not helpful to be overweight.
Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important.If you don't get enough sleep,you feel tired and easily get angry.You have no energy.Over a long period of time a little amount of sleep may even result in a change of personality(人的个性).Be sure to allow yourself from
seven to nine hours of sleep each day.If you do,your body will feel strong and refreshed,and  your mind will be sharp.
Finally,get plenty of exercise.Exercise makes the body stronger,strengthens the muscles(肌肉),and prevents you from gaining weight.It also improves your heart and lungs.If you follow a regular exercise program,you will probably increase your life-span(寿命).Any kind of exercise is good.Most sports are good for keeping the body in good shape:basketball,swimming,bicycling,running and so on.Sports are not only good for your body,but they are enjoyable and interesting,too.

3.What will power your house in the future?Nuclear,wind,or solar power?According to scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US,it might be leaves-but artificial (人造的) ones.
Natural leaves are able to change sunlight and water into energy.It is known as photosynthesis (光合作用).Now researchers have found a way to imitate this seemingly simple process.
The artificial leaf developed by Daniel Nocera and his colleagues at MIT can be seen as a special silicon chip with catalysts (催化剂).Similar to natural leaves,it can split water into hydrogen and oxygen when put into a bucket of water.The hydrogen and oxygen gases are then stored in a fuel cell,which uses those two materials to produce electricity,located either on top of a house or beside the house.
Though the leaf is only about the shape f a poker card,scientists claimed that it is promising to be an inexpensive source of electricity in developing countries."One can imagine villages in India and Africa not long from now purchasing an affordable basic power system based on this technology,"said Nocera at a conference of the American Chemical Society.
The artificial leaf is not a new idea.The first artificial leaf was invented in 1997but was too expensive and unstable for practical use.The new leaf,by contrast,is made of cheap materials,easy to use and highly stable.In laboratory studies,Nocera showed that an artificial leaf prototype (原型) could operate continuously for at least 45hours without a drop in activity.
The wonderful improvements come from Nocera's recent discovery of several powerful,new and inexpensive catalysts.These catalysts make the energy transformation inside the leaf more efficient with water and sunlight.Right now,the new leaf is about 10times more efficient at carrying out photosynthesis than a natural one.Besides,the device can run in whatever water is available;that is,it doesn't need pure water.This is important for some countries that don't have access to pure water.
With the goal to"make each home its own power station"and"give energy to the poor",scientists believe tha the new technology could be widely used in developing countries, especially in India and rural China.

33.Which of the following orders correctly shows how the artificial leaf is used to produce eletricity?A
