Companies that employ workers have an interest in keeping the workplace safe.Job-related injuries are something that responsible employers avoid. They take the time and use company resources to make sure that the people who come to work each day are safe.

Not only does this make good sense from a moral standpoint, but it also makes good financial sense. If a worker is injured on the job,it costs the company in terms of lost mam tours, increased insurance costs, worker’s compensation premiums(赔偿金),and legal posts.

Productivity is lost when other workers have to stop doing their jobs to deal with the situation.Even after the injured worker has been sent home or taken to hospital, other employees may be unfocused or need to take time off from work in the result of the incident.

When a workplace is safe, workers feel more comfortable and confident when they are in that environment. Productivity gets a promotion, and profits follow suit.Absence also drops when employers take steps to carry out an effective safety program.

Investing in a good safety program brings with it other benefits too. When employees feel safe in the workplace and absence rates are kept down, they can focus on serving the company’s customers properly. Many companies offer produces or services that are similar to those that other companies carry or provide.Customers will decide which companies they want to deal with based on which one they feel provides the best customer service.Increased absence means longer wait times and customers are quite prepared to move on to another company they feel will be able to help them in a more timely manner if they are not getting the level of attention that they deserve.

Everyone in the workplace has a duty and a responsibility to do whatever they can to keep the working environment safe.Managers should deal with employee concerns about safely issues in an appropriate manner.

A heated debate is currently going on in our town.Should we allow the cinema to be constructed in the Havenswood Shopping Center? There is just one large lot left to build on,and the theater would use up all of that space. Some people are excited at the idea of finally having our own movie theater.Others would rather travel ten miles to the nearest theater to keep our quiet town the way it is.They say it is enough to have Marvin’s Movie Video Rentals. After all,Marvin’s store keeps thousands of the latest videos.

There are certainly benefits to renting videos. For one thing, you can plan your own schedule when it is convenient for you.You can relax on your sofa, and take a break whenever you need one.You can also talk to others without bothering any strangers seated nearby. In additional,it is a less expensive way to view a movie compared to going to a theater.

On the other hand, seeing a movie in a theater is an experience all its own.First, you can see the movie on wide screen as the filmmaker intended. To be viewed on a television screen,a film must be changed in some way to make it smaller. One is the “pan-and-scan” method, which involves removing some of the details in the picture. The other way, called “letterboxing”,keeps the image the way it is on the big screen, with one annoying exception; because the big-screen version is wide, the same picture on a television screen must be long and narrow.

Another problem is sound. The sound from a television cannot compare to the sound system in a theater.Your experience of a movie improves when you can clearly hear all of the sounds.Furthermore,at home, viewing companions often talk during a movie, which makes you miss out on what’s happening in the film.

Besides, having a movie theater will not mean that you can’t still go to Marvin’s! You will just have a choice that you didn’t have before.Isn’t it time for Havenswood residents to enjoy a little progress?

There is a quote by William Purkey, a well-known professor of education, that goes, “Dance like no one is watching, love like you’ll never be hurt, sing like no one is listening, and live like it’s heaven on earth.” I seems like the perfect life philosophy---and one I’ve learned to apply to running over the year.

But I didn’t always feel this way. In my early days, when I weighed 240 pounds, I ran like everyone was watching---and judging. If I was on a run and saw a car approaching, I’d stop and pretend I was looking for something I’d lost I bought the high-tech gear and clothes that I thought would make people believe I was a runner. And I didn’t have a clue if the expensive shoes I was wearing were the right kind for me---I just wanted to look like I fit in with this group.

To be honest, I felt a certain satisfaction in believing that someone was watching. I really thought that other people cared about my performance. The best example of this was a combined, two-lap marathon in Florence, Italy. As I approached the finishing line, the crowd began to cheer. I was surprised. Here I was, thousands of miles from home, and the Italians were shouting for “IIPenguino.”

About 20 yards from the finishing, the truth set in when the winner of the full marathon went past me as I was finishing the half-marathon. No one was cheering for me. no one probably even noticed that I was finishing. I couldn’t help but smile at my own illusion of self-importance.

That’s when I realized I had been running for every reason except the right one. I ran to make other people happy, ran to live up to their expectations. But no one was watching---no one cared. So I decided I was going to run for me---just me---and gained a new enjoyment from the sport I hadn’t truly experienced yet. I’ve learned to run like no one is watching.

So if you see me at race, and I look like a 60-year-old guy waddling(蹒跚)along, don’t worry. I’m fine. The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.

Pollution’s serious effects on the environment have become more obvious in recent years. Most scientists agree that efforts are necessary to protect our environment from further harm.

As we know, the construction industry consumes a large quantity of energy and resources and creates a huge amount of pollution. So green buildings are in great need.

The environmental benefits of building green include the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity(生物多样性),improved air and water quality, less waste flowing into streams and the protection of natural resources.Green buildings can also result in lower operating costs because they typically use less energy and fewer materials and improve indoor air quality, improving the health of people who live there.

The process of building green includes technical and artistic planning with nature protection in mind.Building designs often reflect the surrounding environment and natural resources and use renewable building materials such as bamboo and straw. In addition, recycled resources found locally are used for green buildings, reducing the cost and air pollution associated with transporting materials long distances.

Careful site selection is important to minimize(最小化)human effect on the surrounding environment. For example, placing a structure in an area that allows it to take advantage of cool breezes(微风)and sunlight can reduce energy use and expenses.More energy and expense are needed for larger buildings as well,so it is important to build small.

Green roofs are another feature of green houses that reduce energy use and cost. These roofs are partially or completely covered with plants, which helps to keep heating and cooling costs low, prevent water running off and deal with pollutants.

Other features of green buildings often include energy and water protection, recycling and waste reduction. In addition, renewable energy sources such as solar power, waterpower and wind power are used for heat and electricity, which greatly reduces costs and decreases the influence on the environment.
