【答案】Dear David,
I’m glad to hear from you. And I’m particularly delighted that you still keep on learning Chinese.
As for the expression “yugongyishan”, it is one of the hundreds of Chinese idioms, which are rich and widely used in Chinese people’s daily life. Behind the idiom there is an interesting story. It goes like this: once upon a time an old man called Yu Gong lived in front of two high mountains, which caused his family great inconvenience. So he decided to move them away by using hoes and baskets. Day after day, year after year, Yu Gong and his family carried on until one day God heard about it and was so moved by his determination that he sent his two sons to take the two mountains away.
This idiom is saying that with determination, anything can be achieved. In my view, it is sort of similar to the saying--where there is a will, there is a way.
Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
