【答案】Dear Editor,

Tm Li Hua, a Senior 3 student. I feel it a great honor to get involved in such a meaningful activity. My favorite saying is “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out” by Robert Collier. It tells us that success is the result of continuous hard work.

As far as I am concerned, no one can achieve success easily. Many people succeeded because they made extraordinary efforts. It was their persistence that finally led to success. Take the Curies for example. When they were researching into radioactivity, they did experiment after experiment. They worked hard all day long with less modem equipment. They didn't give up easily in the face of failure. Instead they kept on trying. Finally, they discovered radium after years of hard work.

So if we want to succeed, we must make persistent efforts. I am sure our hard work will pay off.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

There were many problems when people first moved into the cities in the US and UK. Many lived in bad conditions in poor housing. The governments on sides of the Atlantic, worked to improve the living conditions of city dwellers (居民). For a while, especially in the U.S., city life came to be seen as the best and most exciting way to live. Living in the rural areas was regarded as boring. Who wanted to be struggling to a living in the country doing hard agricultural labor?
Many in the UK believed that they had a much better chance of improving themselves in the city. It would be (easy) to move from the ranks of manual laborers to the middle classes they could get better jobs and education. However, Britain has always had a deep love of the beauty and peacefulness of the countryside. The upper classes have always liked to have a both in London and in the country. They still wanted to go to the country the summer.
Over the last two generations in the UK and US, industrialization has slowed down and more people have become (dissatisfy) with life in urban areas. They are concerned about overcrowding, too much traffic and pollution. What most people want now is a life in the country. They want to move to a village, small town or small holding outside of the city they can have more space and some peace and quiet. Developments in transportation that people can continue longer distance, so more people are living as far as they can from urban centers.
People also believe that village and small town life is better for children. Many say that the schools,
the primary schools, are better in smaller villages. The classes are smaller and some say there will be more positive influence on their children and that their social life will be more fulfilling and nurturing.

【题目】It seems the more time we have, the longer we put off living the life we see in our heads, because we feel like we’ve got some time to kill.

I know where you think I’m going with this, and I also know you’ve heard it all before: seize the day, make the most of it, live life to its fullest, and so on. But that’s the problem. You’ve heard it all before. These ideas have their impact and have become a cliché. Luckily, that’s not my thing.

The real answers wake something up inside you. They make you think. That’s what I want to give you today, the story of Bobby Darin, which wakes you up to the truth.

If you haven’t heard of the man, I know you’ve heard his songs. Among his many hits are Mack the Knife, Beyond the Sea, Dream Lover, and Splish Splash.

If seven years, Darin had several top ten hit songs, was nominated(提名) for four Grammy Awards (winning two), nominated for four Golden Globes (winning one), and even nominated for an Oscar.

So what was his secret?

All his life, Darin had a heart condition that developed from a childhood illness. The doctors at the time said he would be lucky to live to 16. In other words, his time was limited. And this was secret. He knew the truth. He knew that we all have such a hard time accepting: Life is short. You can’t just say it; you can’t just hear it. You have to know it, believe it, and feel it. Because Darin knew his time was limited, he packed as much life as he could into the time he had. But he had an unfair advantage. He knew, without a doubt, his time was limited.

There was no fooling himself, no putting it off. It was now or never.

【题目】Ensuring that disabled people have an easy life is very important, not just because they are human, like all of us, but because their dignity and social well-being should not be ignored just because of a disability. Disabilities can occur through illness, aging, accidents and other different causes that may happen to anyone or affect us all at some stage in life. 1

We are all human beings and so have the same basic needs. But we should remember that there is a wide range of what we call a disability, and while the basic needs are all the same for everyone, the different lifestyle needs are entirely individual. 2 It is best to find out people’s needs from spending time with them.

3 Even the most attractive homes can feel like a cage, so it makes a huge difference to be able to go out to a park or a shopping center, or to plan a day trip such as a picnic or a trip to the beach. Even if a trip can only be organized one day a month, it is more than nothing and does really make a difference.

If they are interested or able, pets can be great companions. 4 Some may be able to take care of a cat or dog; some prefer goldfish or birds in a cage. Very often, people who are cared for don’t feel that they have the chance to care for someone or something else, so caring for pets can improve their confidence and mental health, which can take their mind off their own troubles.

Do not let pets be their only companions. Book a regular appointment with a social worker to visit them at least once a month. This is to check on their mental and physical health as well as ways of improving their living conditions. 5

A. Plan regular trips.

B. Stay with them in a friend way.

C. It is wise to check the abilities of the individuals.

D. You won’t know if they can help if you don’t ask them.

E. It is important because they may need to talk to someone.

F. Therefore, there is no one-size-fits-all method to improve quality of life.

G. The great thing is that it is not hard to make disabled peopled lives easier.
