10.Driving to the airport in the early morning,I felt excited.Although I was heading abroad for my first time alone,I felt cheerful and enthusiastic.I was spending the summer in Paris.
While looking for more interesting things to do besides sleeping and eating,I found programs for learning languages abroad, and jumped at the chance to study French in this city known for its art, fashion, food and culture. As I arrived at the airport where I would leave my family,I still felt only great happiness.I excitedly made my way through security, leaving my loved ones behind.
My connecting flight was in Frankfurt,Germany,14 hours from Denver.Sitting in a crowded plane watching bad movies couldn't dampen my excitement. When the woman next to me asked me where I was going,I happily answered and was pleased to note a tone of jealousy in her response.
But when I arrived in Frankfurt, fear and anxiety began to set in.Being in an enormous, busy building in a country where I couldn't speak the language was frightening, but as I found my way,I gained confidence. When I boarded the second plane and discovered that the flight was less than an hour,I was filled with excitement as I thought of how I would manage in a country with a new language.
When I stepped on the ground of Pairs for the first time,I was extremely happy and excited.I gathered my bags and joined the crowd of people waiting for friends and family.I quickly had my first experience trying to communicate in a language that I had only practiced in school. As I left the airport,I looked for familiar monuments I had read about, but the landscape looked very ordinary. Then, with one sharp turn, the Eiffel Tower came into view, and I was finally in Pairs.

I love exploring trends in food.‘Fusion(融合) cuisine'is not for everybody.My Italian grandmother would turn her nose up in disgust at the thought of tandoori pizza with mango topping but this marriage of tastes is perfectly fine in the 21st century.Chef and food writer Ching-He Huang,who presented a series of Chinese Food for the BBC,is a fan of the movement.She says:"Fusion has been happening for centuries,for as long as people have travelled,but with the Internet,and global travel,the exchange of ideas makes the process much faster."
Wolfgang Puck is seen by many as one of the chefs who made‘fusion'elegant.He got his experience in this aspect in his native Vienna and made a name for himself when he opened his own restaurant in Los Angeles in the 1970s.This European dug into Asian cuisine and became one of the first in a long line of distinguished chefs.He said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that initially he got negative responses from traditional American-Chinese restaurant owners but he is not bitter."I believe authenticity is about evolution,not repeating your grandmoter's recipe."he explains."Cooking is like painting or writing a song.Just as there are only so many notes or colours.there are only so many flavours-it's how you combine them that sets you apart."
My granny's cup of tea would be the Slow Food Movement.Founded by her countryman Carlo Petrini in the 1980s and still going strong,it seeks to preserve regional cuisine and the use of ingredients that are grown locally.Petrini wants to see farmers connected more directly with consumers.
All these trends give us food for thought.We might be wasting an exciting opportunity to wake up our taste buds when we swallow a sandwich at our desks.Tomorrow,why not find an exotic restaurant and enjoy a feast?You dress trendy so eat trendy!

5.Culture can affect not just language and customs,but also how people experience the world on surprisingly basic levels.
Researchers, with the help of brain scans, have uncovered shocking differences in perception (感知) between Westerners and Asians, what they see when they look at a city street, for example,or even how they perceive a simple line in a square, according to findings published in a leading science journal.
In western countries,culture makes people think of themselves as highly independent entities (实体).When looking at scenes,Westerners tend to focus more on central objects than on their surroundings.East Asian cultures,however,emphasize inter-dependence.When Easterners look at a scene,they tend to focus on surroundings as well as the object.
Using an experiment involving two tasks,Dr Hedden asked subjects to look at a line simply to estimate its length,a task that is played to American strengths.In another,they estimated the line's length relative to the size of a square,an easier task for the Asians.
The level of brain activity,by tracking blood flow,was then measured by Brain Scanners.The experiment found that although there was no difference in performance,and the tasks were very easy,the levels of activity in the subjects'brains were different.For the Americans,areas linked to attention lit up more,when they worked on the task they tended to find more difficult--estimating the line's size relative to the square.For the Asians,the attention areas lit up more during the harder task also--estimating the line's length without comparing it to the square.The findings are a reflection of more than ten years of previous experimental research into east-west differences.
In one study,for instance,researchers offered people a choice among five pens; four red and one green.Easterners were more likely to choose a red pen while Westerners were more likely to choose the green one.
Culture is not affecting how you see the world,but how you choose to understand and internalize (使内化) it.But such habits can be changed.Some psychological studies suggest that when an Easterner goes to the West or vice versa,habits of thought and perception also begin to change.Such research gives us clues on how our brain works and is hopeful for us to develop programs to improve our memory,memory techniques and enhance and accelerate our learning skills.

B.They show that Easterners and Westerners have great differences in perceiving the world.
C.They suggest that people's habits of thought and perception can be changed in different cultures.
D.They make it clear that Easterners and Westerners lay emphasis on different things.

12.There is an island called Kitava, way out there in the Pacific Ocean,in the Milne Bay Province of Papua New Guinea. It is one of the four main Trobriand Islands with a total population of 12,000 native residents.Rich with culture, surrounded on all sides by clear blue water and abundant rainforest,Kitava is as apealing as it is remote. But it has more to offer than good views.
As Byrdie reports,Kitava is also home to a people whose diet and nutritional habits remain healthy, untouched by Western influence.A lifetime of not knowing the sweet, sweet sensation of the salt from a potato chip hitting the roof of your mouth has done more than just spare Kitavans from illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular disease; it's also given them a lifetime of smooth,acne(痤疮)-free skin.
In a study of l',200 subjects-including 300 teens and young adults-conducted by a team led by medical doctor and professor Steffan Lindeberg over 843 days, not one breakout was reported. They also found that genetics played little to no role in the results.
In fact,the average Kitavan diet is fairly common.It's simple,with no"miracle fruit"or"rare nut"to speak of,and Kitavans don't even exercise much.That diet consists mainly of yams( 山荮),sweet potatoes,and taro (芋头),local fruits (namely coconut),fish,and vegetables.
But if you're already pulling out your suitcases and drafting a resignation letter to your boss, you might want to slow your step. For one thing, the closest airport is over 700 miles away from the island,so good luck getting there. And consider this:do you really want to move somewhere where you'll be the only person with acne until the diet kicks in?I don't think so.

28.Which are the contributing factors of attracting visitors to the island?B
a.Rich culture.b.Clean white sand     c.Thick rainforest

B.Don't hesitate to quit your job and move there.

D.Anyone will own acne-free skin on stepping on Kitava.
9.What would you like to be when you grow up?A teacher?A doctor?An astronaut?What do you need to do to achieve your dream job?Perhaps you think that studying well and then going on to work hard will get you successful career you want.We are constantly taught that our hard work will eventually pay off.
But a government survey has shown that hard work is not the only thing that will help you to move up the ladder.Two thirds of people believe that who you know matters more than what you know when it comes to social activity.So are the connections that you have more important than your education?
76% of the people in the survey believed that family background is important in influencing your chances of success.They believe that if you are privileged from birth,you are more likely to have a successful career,especially if your family is wealthy.
Even if you don't have a privileged background,the people you know can still make a difference to your career.Networking is a skill which is encouraged by many career advisers.Some companies run networking workshops to try and encourage staff to meet other people,to communicate and build relationships.It's a valuable skill.
But the survey also showed something quite interesting.Although most people believed that networks are more important than education,many people put their own career success down to talent,rather than background.41% of the people said that their parents'income had influenced their life,but at the same time,another 41% believed that they had achieved their own success.
So which is more important, what you know or who you know? It seems that by working hard and making lots of connections, the answer may be that both are very important.

21.According to the government survey,the most important factor to help people move up the ladder isB.

A.stress the importance of education
