3.Wildlife in Decline
The populations of Earth's wild vertebrates (脊椎动物)have declined by 58% over the past four decades,according to the Living Planet Report 2016published by the World Wildlife Fund.
Climate change and activities such as deforestation and poaching(偷猎)are in large part (21)to blame(blame) for the decline.If the trend continues,by 2020,the world (22)will have lost(lose) two-thirds of its vertebrate biodiversity."Sadly,there is no sign yet (23)that this rate will decrease,"the report says.
"Across land,fresh water and the oceans,human activities are forcing wildlife populations to the edge,"says Marco Lambertini,director-general of WWF International.
The Living Planet Report is published every two years.It aims to provide an assessment of the state of the world's wildlife.The 2016 study included 3700 different species of birds,fish,mammals,amphibians and reptiles around the world.The team collected data from more than 3000 sources,including government statistics and surveys (24)carried (carry) out by conservation groups.They then analyzed (25)how the population sizes had changed over time.
Lambertini said some groups of animals had done worse than others.''We do see particularly strong declines (26)in the freshwater environment.For freshwater species alone,the decline stands at 81% since 1970.This is related to the way that water (27)is used(use) and taken out of freshwater systems, and also to the fragmentation(分裂)of freshwater systems through dam building, for example."
The report also highlighted other species,such as African elephants,(28)which nave suffered huge declines in recent years,and sharks,which are threatened by overfishing.
(29)In spite of all the terrifying facts,however,some conservationists say there is still hope."One of the things that I think is the most important is that these wild animals haven't yet gone extinct,"said Robin Freeman,head of the Zoological Society of London."On the whole,(30)they are not dying out,and that means we still have opportunities to do something about the decline."

解答 21.to blame 考查动词不定式.be to blame for意为"应对…负责(应因…而受责)",是固定搭配.
22.will have lost
23.that 考查同位语.sign后接的同位从句this rate will decrease是完整的,要用连词that引导.
29.In spite of 考查介词. In spite of.
30.they 考查代词.they指代上文中提到的these wild animals.

One tactic involves where to show the goods.For example,stores place fruits and vegetables in the first section.They know that customers who buy the healthy food first will feel happy so that they will buy more junk food later in their trip.In department stores,the women's shoe section is generally next to the women's cosmetics(化妆品)section:while the shop assistant is going back to find the right size shoe,bored customers will wander over and find some cosmetics they might want to try later.
Besides,businesses try to attract customers'senses.Store notice that the smell of baked foods encourages shopping,so they make their own bread each morning and then make the bread smell into the store throughout the day.Music sells goods,too.Researchers in Britain found that when French music was played,sales of French wines went up.

1.In a speech this week to the Institute of Civil Engineering,the Prime Minister,David Cameron,made clear his support for wind energy.He focused on some of the many advantages of developing the industry.
Let's examine those reasons.It is an abundant,clean and sustainable source of energy,reducing our dependence on expensive fossil fuel imports,increasingly from politically unstable parts of the globe.Let's not forget that Russia turned off the gas supply to Europe in 2006.
More recently,we have all felt the pain this winter, when international gas prices soared by 40% compared to last year.Should we carry on exposing ourselves to the instability(不稳定) of global energy prices and the unpredictability of global events,or should we recognize the value of taking control of our energy supply?

The UK is already the global leader in wind power,with greater ability than anywhere else in the world-enough to supply more than a million homes with electricity all year round-and the government is calling for an increase by eight times in the amount of wind turbines installed by 2020,which the industry can achieve as long as it gets the right level of support from ministers.In reurn,as well as bring the environmental benefits of clean energy,the wind industry is committed to save consumers a lot of money.

13.The first DC movie of 2017,Wonder Wonder Woman,is a few days away from release. With the DC Extended University (DCEU) so far(27)looking(look)dangerously underpowered compared with Marvel's Chinematic University, the pressure is on to ensure this latest comic book adaptation from Warner Bros is a hit.
The DCEU has offered the world a handful of heroes, but it seems to be confused about what makes a good hero. We've seen a Superman suffering from doubt and lacking his unusual optimism, and a hopeless Batman who(28)is motivated(motivate) almost entirely by evil.So untrustworthy are the supposed good guys in the DCEU,the world turned to a group of super villains (恶棍) when it wanted to take down a villain in Suicide Squad.
Wonder Woman,an Amazonian princess warrior who is a demigoddess (半神),is supposed to be different. She presents a very feminine sense of peace, justice and(29)whatGal Gadot has described as"emotional intelligence."In Wonder Woman,(30)afterAmerican pilot Steve Trevor crashes on Themyscira and tells Princess Diana of the island nation about Word War I,she leaves her home to try to stop the war and becomes Wonder Woman.
(31)Withthe upcoming movie,DC has an opportunity to steal a march on Marvel, because the Disney-owned studio has yet to deliver a movie led by a female superhero.Besides, director Patty Jenkins has (32)an impressive history of telling women's stories, including writing and directing the Oscar-winning crime drama Monster.
Making her first comic book appearance in October 1941,Wonder Woman was the brainchild of the American psychologist and writer William Moulton Marston,(33)whointended her as a feminist icon. But is her impressive physical beauty a problem for a feminist reading of the character?Jenkins doesn't think so,describing her take on the character as"total wish-fulfillment."
"I,(34)as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight bad guys and look great at the same time,"she said,"the same way men want Superman to have huge chest muscles and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the the hero they want to be.And my hero,in my head, has really long legs."
