Time is very important in our lives. It organizes our everyday moments. However, time never had any importance in my life until I  16  a watch from my father, which organized my life and made me more responsible. It’s round in the center with two silver bands(带) that   17 around my wrist and all of it is made of silver.
I received this   18 on a gray – sky day. I had to go to the airport at 9:00 am to  19  up my Uncle Ali and take him to my father’s house.  20  , I was late because I was   21 out with my friends. Later on that day, around 11:00 am, I   22 my uncle, but I was very late for him. He had   23 the airport and taken a taxi to my father’s house.
I got to my father’s house at 2:00 pm that day and felt ashamed of myself at that moment. After I said hi to my   24 father and tired uncle, my father asked me to sit next to him and handed me this watch as a gift from him. Then he said, “Peter, did you have   25 with your friends today?” I answered, “Yes, father, and   26  apologized for not meeting my Uncle Ali.” He said, “What you   27  was not very nice and you should be sorry for your action.” I was ashamed and said, “Father, I’ll never do it again . I promise.” He said, “I hope today you learned something important, and this watch will be a   28  for you.” He told me to take this watch and use it as an organizer of my  29  .
I learned a very important lesson from my father: to respect time and never to be late to get someone. This watch is   30  to me, not because of its price, but because of the lesson that I learned from it.

I am sure many people have said about me, “He must be the happiest man in the world!” But they were wrong.1 I was famous and had2 money, I was not really happy. I found myself asking, “3 does all this not give me real happiness?”
Newspapers said, “Kriss Akabusi is the European champion. He has also4 an Olympic bronze medal.” Now before all this happened, I had5 , “If I can become a champion, I will be happy. I will6 a lot of money and then enjoy7 . I will have a good time.”
When I went to the Edinburgh Games, in my hotel8 I found a book by my bedside. It was called What’s Real Happiness in Life? I9 this book up and read some of the stories in it. The book mainly told about the happiness brought by helping others. But I said to10 , “All these things are too11 for me to do.”
But that night I had a12 . I found myself standing by a river. I13 a voice calling to me from the other side of the river. The voice said, “You know helping others is as14 as crossing the river, and it’s not as difficult as you imagine.” Then suddenly I awoke. I realized I was15 now when compared to before. I found I had real16 of mind.
So I can now tell my friends what I have17 . Being famous and having a lot of money18 gave me happiness. So all I can say to you is this—we are19 when we think that to be famous and rich will make us happy. Now I have a children’s TV program called Record Breakers. I have no20 about what tomorrow will bring.

I was coaching girls' track in Iowa and there was a young discus(铁饼)thrower on the team with  21  potential(潜力). Here goes her story.

At the end of our training   22   the district track meet, this discus thrower, Lucy, asked me if she   23   come to the school on Sunday for a little   24   training. I agreed. The year before, she had placed second at the district meet and   25   missed going to the state meet. She had won every discus event,   26   that district meet! And, her throws in the competitions had   27  been between 106’1” and 110’10”.
Something began to   28  me. Why couldn't Lucy   29  to get the discus to 111 feet? I wondered if it was more a psychological barrier(心理的障碍)  30   a physical one. I decided to try something   31  . I made up my mind to   32   to Lucy.

On Sunday, after her drills, I said, “Why don’t you throw five or six good ones for me to  33  ?” She began to throw again, but   34   were farther than what she had already thrown. But, I didn’t tell Lucy. As I was measuring the   35  one, I pulled out some more tape (量尺) and yelled out to her, “ Come to see this! This one is  36  ! ” It wasn’t. Lucy, thinking that this was a personal best, jumped wildly into the air in  37  .

The next afternoon, at the district meet, Lucy   38   with a personal best throw of 114’10”! Just 24 hours after I had lied to her. However, this time she had   39   thrown the discus four feet further than she had ever thrown it before.
Sometimes we   40   our own barriers in our mind. So learn to take control of your mind.
