Although I had left school against the advice of my teachers, I had, without telling anyone, tried to1my studies in literature at evening classes. It was a tiresome2from one end of the city to another and to3among adults was uninteresting. I was the youngest in the4, so the friendship I knew at school was5. I put up with it for a short period. It was6long a walk on cold winter’s nights and it was hard to put my7into Shakespeare with wet shoes and trousers. So I continued writing poetry at home.
By chance, I8some prizes and awards for literature. A young woman from a9company came to the college one day. She told me that I won a national poetry award. I10at her in astonishment and disbelief. She wanted to make a short11about me, to which I said, “ No, I couldn’t do that.” Not that I had any real12. I was just frightened. In the end she13me that I should do it the following day.
So I did. They made a short film of me reading one of my14and I became15interested in literature than ever. I16what I should do after this, and decided some weeks later that I could not17myself spending the rest of my days dealing with machines. So one evening, I hesitatingly told my parents that I wanted to18to school. They were greatly surprised and a little afraid, but they did not try to persuade me not to. They wanted to know if I was19, and if I knew what it meant and20I realized that if I gave up my job training, it would be very difficult to get a good job. But nothing could stop me, and they asked about the matter no further.

go on后面需接with后再接宾语。
It was a tiresome journey/walk to go from...。
5.选A。
6.选A。
7.选B。put one’s heart into sth. mind的使用结构为put one’s mind on sth.。
9.选A。
14.选A。
17.选D。imagine doing sth.
19.选A。
20.选A。
The other day, I happened to meet someone I hadn’t seen for many years. I couldn’t believe the change in him. In fact, he didn’t even seem like the 21 person.
When I first knew Bill, back in 22 , he was one of the most carefree(无忧无虑)people I had ever 23 . He was always ready to have a party. He thought 24 of going out for beer at three o’clock in the morning or driving 50 miles to see an old 25 he really liked. Bill and I were in the same class in college, and 26 was never dull when he was 27 . With him there was one wild 28 after another. Sometimes I wonder how we 29 to study for our exams.
Last week I was in Houston on business and I ran into Bill in the bar at the hotel. 30 , I wasn’t even sure it was 31 . Was this short – haired businessman really the same person? I wasn’t really sure until I came near him but it indeed was Bill. Now he works for a bank. He 32 most of the evening about his job, his new car and his house. How he had changed! Back when we were in college, the 33 thing Bill cared about was possessions. Now they seemed to be his main 34 . Although I have changed quite a bit myself, somehow, I never 35 Bill changing so much. My image of him 36 the one I had formed 37 the time when we were college students together.
I suppose it’s 38 to expect people to remain the same, especially 39 I have changed so much myself. But I must say that I enjoyed the old Bill much more than the new Bill. Maybe he 40 the same way about me.
