Suggest用法小结

1.Suggest表示建议,用法如下:

1)Suggest+ 名词/代词或suggest+名词/代词to+人,但不能说suggest sb sth ,即不能加双宾做宾语

eg:We suggest him the plan (Χ)但We suggest the plan to him(√)

2)suggest+doing sth eg He suggested going out for a walk.

注意:suggest 不可以加不定式,所以上面的句子不可以这样写:

He suggested to go out for a walk.(Χ)

3)suggest +(that )+主语+(should) do+sth 其中的should 可以省略

eg:He suggested that you should go there tomorrow.=He suggested you go there tomorrow.

注意,不可以这样说:He suggested you to go there tomorrow.也就是说suggest不可以加不定式的复合结构.

5)it is suggested that +主语+(should )do sth eg:It is suggested that the work (should) be finished at once.

6)suggestion主语时,其后的表语从句也用这个结构即:The suggestion is that +主语+should +do sth

eg:His suggestion is that I should leave for Beijing immediately.

2.suggest 表示暗示或表明之意,注意此时做主语时后面的表语从句用陈述语气

eg:Her yawn suggested that she was sleepy.她哈欠连天表明她困了

【题目】Children of America are getting fatter every time. 13% of the children at the age of 6 to 11 are overweight (too fat).

When we look at the children's lives today in the USA, we can see the root of the problem----sports and foods. Young children like sports but they don't have enough around the start of high school. That's especially true for girls. Meanwhile, to make matters worse, schools are becoming much more interested in sports teams. So children are not able to get enough exercise just when they need it the most. There is also the food problem. Children get most of their calories at restaurants or parties or somewhere else away from home. They often drink too many Cokes. Parents have a lot of fears about telling a child he needs to lose weight-- they are afraid it will push a child into an eating disorder. Some parents fear that pushing children to lose weight means their children will think they're not good enough, or not loved because of their weight. Parents need to come to terms with(向…妥协) the fact that the family is very important to the children. The most useful program for children is called "family weight control". This is good news. Mom and Dad, even if they don't have weight problems, have to go through the same program as their children and learn how to get some exercise and how to eat healthily.

【1】Why are American children getting fatter? The writer thinks ______________________.

【题目】书面表达

请阅读下面文字,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

"Are you happy?" I asked my brother, Ian, one day.

"Yes. No. It depends on what you mean," he said.

"Then tell me," I said, "when was the last time you think you were happy?"

"April 1967," he said.

I added up my little moments of pleasure yesterday. First, there was enough happiness when I shut the last lunchbox and had the house to myself. Then, I spent an uninterrupted morning writing, which I love. When the kids came home, I enjoyed their noise after the quiet of the day.

You never know where happiness will turn up next. When I asked friends what made them happy, some mentioned seemingly insignificant moments. "I hate shopping," one friend said. "But there's this clerk who always chats and really cheers me up." Another friend loves the telephone. "Every time it rings, I know someone is thinking about me."

We all experience moments like these. Too few of us register them as happiness. While happiness may be more complex for us, the solution is the same as ever. Happiness isn't about what happens to us; it's about how we perceive(看待) what happens to us. It's the best way of finding a positive for every negative, and viewing a set-back as a challenge. It's not wishing for what we don't have, but enjoying what we do possess.

【题目】Teenagers at one German school are learning how to achieve happiness alongside other traditional subjects such as math and languages. The class sit in a circle with their eyes shut and they count from one to ten: someone starts, the next voice comes from the far right, a third from the other side.

The aim of the game is to listen for an opportunity to shout out the number without clashing (冲突) with another voice or leaving a pause. On the first try, most of the young Germans try to be first, while a few are too shy to join in, but by the fifth time round, they develop a rhythm (节奏).The message: give other people space but also confidently claim your own. This is a requirement for social well-being.

The Willy Hellpach School in Heidelberg is the first in the nation to develop a happiness course.

It is intended for students preparing for university entrance exams.

“The course isn’t there to make you happy,” Ernst Fritz-Schubert, the school principal, warned pupils, “but rather to help you discover the ways to become happy.”

Cooking a meal together is one of the class exercises. Improving body language under the guidance of two professional actresses is another.

The course is taught for three periods a week. Although it’s the happy subject, the pupils themselves insist it is no laughing matter.

“In the first period, we had to each say something positive about another member of the class and about ourselves. No laughing at people,” said Fanny, 17.

Research by the school shows it is not the first to start happiness classes: they also exist at some US universities, mainly based on positive thinking, using findings from studies of depression.

【题目】Beliefs form a big part of our lives. Successful people have always believed that they can be and will be successful in their lives, such as Michael Phelps. Many of us have seen Michael Phelps win 8 gold medals in a single Olympic Games. That has created a history for himself. Many people have admired his success and the first reaction in their mind will be, “Wow, how I wish I could be like him!” Have you ever wondered what brought him success?

In fact, anyone can achieve what they have wanted to achieve. It is about beliefs. Everyone is a born winner. It is this belief that drives an individual to be successful in his or her own field. All successful individuals have strong beliefs and it is one of the bases for their success. If we start to believe in ourselves, the things that we can achieve will definitely give us a pleasant surprise.

Other than having a strong belief, it is the attitude that drives the individual to create their own history. The devotion towards themselves and the drive must also be present. Imagine having a strong belief in oneself and having a poor attitude towards life. Then how would that individual turn out to be? One’s attitude comprises the drive, the devotion and the desire to achieve his goals. If one has strong beliefs about the goals that he can achieve and he displays good attitudes towards them, it would be no surprise to anyone that he will be able to achieve his goals.

【题目】Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.

If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants. Flowering plants can make seed. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit. Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores (胚芽). Spores are very small. Some spores are so small and light that they can float in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as seeds. When these spores are all on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new plants.
